saturday shopping

I was awake bright and early yesterday morning. I'd fallen to sleep at 'round 6pm on Friday, and woke at 23:20. I pottered around online a bit and watched Jaws. I finally fell back to sleep at 'round 5am, waking again at 9:15.

I had already decided I wanted to go to Meadowhall (the shopping mall) as early as possible. A few of the big shops open at 9, but the majority open at 10. The neighbours were having a new fence built, which separates our garden from theirs, so I had to hang around until the workmen had put up the plum-line (if you don't know, it's a straight length of string to use as a guide!). Dennis (the neighbour) had knocked at the door, asking if I wanted to take a look and give my approval before they started the heavy work. I said sure but I was sure whatever they did was going to be fine. The previous owners of our house had stolen about 2 feet of the boundary anyway.

One of the workmen told me not to worry about the mess; they'd clean up after they'd done. I just laughed because the whole garden is a mess and I almost told him he could do it all while he was there.

And with that, I locked up and headed out to Meadowhall. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, for a Saturday. I haven't been that early for a few years, but I remember it being a lot busier than that. I went to Topman and bought a couple more tshirts (2 for £10), and summer neck scarf (like a normal scarf but made of cotton; more an accessory than any practical use -- unless you use it to keep the sun off your neck?), some face cleanser/toner from Boots, and new underwear from Primark. I saw some novelty boxers for £0.98, which I thought would be funny, and a good talking point, if I ever was in the position of bearing my underpants -- across the left leg, it reads "Weapon of Mass Seduction." So I bought those, too. Ha!
