Okay. I just started writing a year-seven fic. I have been trying to get all the characters into place, assessing their motivations and trying to get them from HBP to where I think they should be.

Anyway, I was musing on Ginny, and I came up with a few ideas. Probably not canon, but they made sense to me. What if she was more effected by Riddle than we realized? What if all of her actions in HBP that we found distastful were her trying to hide inner pain. Okay, yah, kind of hokey, but bear with me for a minute. So, Harry is the one who rescues her from Riddle. Harry is the one who has to face Voldemort in the end. What if that is why she latches onto Harry as the guy she likes? Sure, she had a crush before. Still, something may have changed after the Chamber. Maybe she latches onto Harry as not just a hero but as her hero because of his saving her. Maybe she doesn't want to go with him to fight because she's scared, more scared than she's willing to admit. So, she'll just wait until her hero comes back.

Maybe she really is that warped. It would explain why she follows what he says and why she does the things she does. It gets her to a place where, in my mind, she could be worthy of Neville, and could really benefit from a friendship with him. I could see them becoming friends while the trio are off on the Horcrux hunt and eventually falling in love. I can see Neville as someone she can confide in in a way she can't do with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Luna, or anyone else.

Anyway, just a few scattered thoughts. It at least would make me feal better about her as a person. It would make her more understandable.
