so it's been freaking ages since my last post... so here goes my attempt to keep up on this thing again...
i just got word that i am going to africa in march... oh my god. i am beyond excited, but at the same time i'm scared shitless. it'll be a great experience... for those i haven't talked to in awhile, it's a west african drum & dance trip to guinea in west africa. it's three weeks of intensive courses, a cultural experience taught by the people who live there. it should be a hell of a time. now on to the yellow fever vaccines.
before that though, i'm "chaperoning" a high school band trip to florida for a week... that happens really soon, come to think of it. i'm going w/ my dad, who's also serving as a chaperone (it'll be a sort of a "family vacation" i guess)... regardless, i get to be a kid for a week. disney at it's finest, magic kingdom, wild animal park, epcot, mgm, sea world, and some other things that i haven't been made aware of yet. i need to scope out some bars/clubs that katie (yet another chap) and i can hit up while we're there.
i fell down the stairs yesterday (only about three of them, and no, i was not drunk), and my left side aches now. guess it's time for a chiropractic appointment.
i'm working again on weekends at the bar. i really like being there this time of year... not as many tourists to deal with, and the money seems to come easier. which will be convenient considering i'm spending half of my savings to go on this africa trip.
break was fun... got the chance to see a few people i haven't seen in awhile... betsy, jen, mari, and i went bridesmaids dress shopping, only to have betz decide on having us make our own dresses. i am determined to become a seamstress in the next couple months (the wedding is in may, so she needs to decide on fabric now... so that we can get a move on things). my friend robyn, who's in fashion design, said she would help me out... and maybe i'll ask grandma as well... she's good at this kind of stuff.
i also got the chance to go downstate for kate's homecoming party from romania... now, i'm pretty much decided that i will join the peace corps at some point. in fact, i'm planning on starting that application as soon as i get my french one in. and what's the french application i am speaking of? i'll get to that in a little bit, so just read on. at kate's party were a bunch of sisters, all of whom i miss and love dearly, so this was great that i was able to visit with them for awhile. i also met some of kate's friends, from peace corps & home, and it was all-around a grand time. one of the best things i did over break, and to think that i almost didn't go just because i was a little tired. my car got backed into (or should i say, slid into) twice in the less-than-24-hour-period that i was there, and everything was okay, so if nothing else, it provided entertainment.
for new years, i celebrated w/ lesley, emily, andrea, and laura... thanks to you ladies for a pretty chillax time. a couple games of skipbo, a few margaritas, a visit from mom & steve, a round of flip cup, and falling asleep with a kitten on my lap. we also hit up andy's while the girls were in town... always good. i heard that i was missed at brian & jeff's, and i will be at the next party for sure. i'm sorry i couldn't make it guys... there are just not enough hours in the day.
i saw rusty at the shell gas station yesterday, and we chatted for a bit. he's going to budapest about the same time i'm leaving for florida. he'd better take pictures.
oh, about that french application. i am currently applying for the french teaching assistantship program for the upcoming school year. i've gotten most of the application done, just waiting on the receipt of my recommendations and a medical report that i have to make a doctor's appointment for. i'm thinking about making réunion (a tiny island off the coast of madagascar) one of my preferences, but i really don't care at this point where i'm placed, as long as i'm accepted. i just read that my cousin is applying for a similar (if not the same) program for next year... how weird would it be if we both were teaching english in france next year?!
so my many apologies if this seems to be long-winded, random, or both... you should know by now that that's how i roll. and hopefully this update of the last six months will suffice.
