Woohoo! I suck!

officially, even:

Well, they apparently have posted the results from the fencing tourney I was in on Saturday. The number don't lie; I got my butt-kicked, but at least I had fun doing it.
And, I was one of only 2 foil fencers (and 3 total) from our club to go. Go Erich for doing both weapons.

Results:
Overall Results - Epee is first, Foil second - scroll all the way to the bottom to see my wonderful 63rd place finish! w00t.
Detailed Pool Results I'm about in the middle; should be highlighted.
links open in new windows - wasn't that nice of me :P

Highlights:
Okay, so it really was fun and a couple of my bouts went really well. I've fenced Cory Abbe before (at the State Games; she beat me that time, too), and then after that I was in need of food and unboredomness.
The French fencer (Colinne) was really damned good, especially at parry by distance (the only words I caught her coach telling her, but it showed) and I'm not so good at timing anyway, so no surprise on that one.
Ariel was the last bout of my pool. Yeah, big surprise there. He finished 2nd in pools overall; I finished 2nd to last.

Which, of course lead to...
My DE: Ariel again! Sheesh!
Okay, this actually went considerably better than the pool. First 5 points he got in on my pretty quick, but I at least was making him do things right to get them in (Jesus Priest, he's fast). And then I actually got a counter-riposte in! w00t! Go me!
So, another minute or so of me getting poked repeatedly and...I got another point in! I'm still not entirely sure how I did it, but it was something not entirely unlike a hit-straight.
If I were better at timing, I might have gotten a few more points in, and if it were epee, the score would have been more like 15-6 with all my attempted stop-hits. I just seemed to fall for the same arm trick every single time.

Overall - left-handed foils aren't nearly as good as right-handed ones; I wound up just gripping the weapon really tight instead of loosening up. I wound up scoring 4pts with the lefty-ish blade, 5 with the "traditional" one, and nada with the heavier one that I brought (of course, I only used that one in my pool bout against Ariel).

All of that probably meant something to only like 2 people who are likely to read my lj.

fencing, ramblings
