I'm back on campus, laying on the rock wall by the meditation pool. There won't be internet in my room for a week, so I expect to be spending my free time in my favorite wireless hotspots, since there's nothing to do in my barren room except read.
Oh, and my free time? There's going to be plenty of it. At this point, I am kicking myself for how I filled out the orientation leader task form last spring. I assumed incorrectly that everyone would be getting a group of freshmen, so I marked down that other tasks interested me instead, hoping to get to do many different things. I still remained hopeful after finding out I had no freshmen because I thought I was going to be doing one of the other programs. When I signed in today, I was handed a binder that included a list of all my assignments. Not only do I have no freshmen, but I'm not doing any of the other things I requested to do. I came out here early to hold open doors and smile politely at information tables. I am wasting two weeks of my summer out here without a single interesting activity to offset it. Looking over the training schedule, most of the activities are for RAs or orientation leaders with groups, so I don't even know how busy I'll be before the students come. On the bright side, I suppose this will provide me with more time to work at The Rose, since they seem desperate to have me back, and I'm eager to go anywhere where I won't be viewed as simply capable of grunt work.
Even though the majority of my possessions aren't going to be here until next week, I "moved in" to my room today. It's as typically ghetto as the rest of the dormitories are, despite being housed in the coolest building on campus (it is shaped like a castle). The former residents left behind sticky things on the doors and SpongeBob stickers all over the walls, plus the paint on the ceiling is cracking. On the bright side, I have probably three times the space I did last year. I already know my RA and the other two girls in the double, leaving me with only two Mystery Floormates. For some unknown reason, my floor's bathroom has been designated to be for men, so I have to go downstairs, which will provide me with the opportunity to meet those girls as well.
My battery is dying, so I am off to finish Memoirs of a Geisha.
