alternate history: In his canon, Egypt is the son of Kemet (and possibly Rome), but in this AU-- he's the only Egypt, and was born when people began settling in small communities in his lands.

When Egypt was still a very young nation, his 'gods' apparently descended, taking control and enslaving he and his people. He underwent some pretty significant trauma during this period, as the gods turned out to be nothing more than imposters from another world. Eventually, Egypt's people rose up and drove the 'gods' away, burying the Stargate through which they'd come. As time passed, his people forgot-- but Egypt himself kept the memories close, keeping a watchful eye out in case his oppressors chose to return one day.

In 1928, archaeologists discovered the Stargate, and though Egypt himself was disturbed by it, he kept silent so long as no one knew what it was or what it might have been used for. When it was transported to the United States, there was little he could do about it, forced to wait anxiously and pray that no one would ever discover its purpose. .. But then someone did. When Daniel Jackson and Col. O'Neill went through the gate and returned, the incident prompted the United States government to finally make contact with Egypt's government-- and through it, Egypt himself. He traveled to Cheyenne Mountain to advise the members of the program in person, and continued to do so from time to time over the ensuing weeks, returning home at last once the program was shut down.

It wasn't until the program was re-started that he returned to the United States. Against his advice, the President chose to pursue the study and use of the Stargate, so Egypt, too, remained at Cheyenne Mountain to offer what assistance he could. He returned home from time to time when he was needed, but he was present for most of the following missions, right up until the attack by Apophis that didn't actually come.

personality: Well, the first thing people notice about Egypt is that he's ridiculously quiet and apparently very, very serious. In fact, he speaks so rarely that most people don't even realise that he can, and it tends to take people by surprise when he does. It's not that he's shy, and it's not that he doesn't know what to say-- he's just lived so long that he doesn't really find speech all that necessary anymore. Words don't mean a lot unless there's something to back them up, and he takes that entirely to heart. For the most part, he's content to let the younger nations squabble it all out, and he keeps to himself and his people.

Most of his people are Muslim, now, so he's adapted to understand the religion and all its rules and quirks-- he even changed his human name a long time ago to make his leaders more comfortable with him. He doesn't practice it, though, still largely faithful to his roots in the beliefs of the pharaohs.

A fierce warrior from a nation of warriors, he much prefers to be on the front line with his people, and that has been true since he was still very young. He has been invaded, conquered, bombed, burned, and tortured. No matter what, though, he's always managed to recover, and become stronger and more resilient than ever. Because of his youthful appearance and seemingly-passive personality, most nations don't understand how deadly he actually is-- and really, that's how he prefers it. He's very focused on his loved ones and his people, and while he's very willing to fight as hard as he must for them, he much prefers peace. --For the most part, he gets along with the other nations in the region fairly well, and seems especially fond of Turkey and Greece, since he's known them for so long.

Despite his silence and his rather serious demeanor, Egypt apparently does have a sense of humour, and it reveals itself in unexpected, sometimes bizarre ways. He occasionally brings wares from home and tries at random to sell them to people-- most would swear just to see their reactions. He also pretends not to understand the European nations-- again, apparently just to frustrate them and see their reactions.

Because of his age and quiet mannerisms, as well as his tendency to remain uninvolved with the others, he's considered quite exotic and mysterious, and though the opinion seems to amuse him, it's nothing he attempts to correct. He's happy enough letting people think what they will.

abilities/powers: Well.. Egypt is immortal, as a nation. So long as his people exist in some form or another, he'll continue on. Otherwise, he's pretty much as human as the next person.

first person sample: I'm not sure if d_m counts, but this is a pretty good example of his typical entries and dialogue. Also, on to a different sample:

video.

[ the video reveals a small, middle-eastern young man, probably twenty at the oldest, in a jacket and scarf. golden hoops hang from his earlobes, and his eyes are a bright, tawny gold, as well. he looks very serious, and after a moment, his head tilts. ]

.. Daniel? Is anyone.. [ he glances away, fingers lifting to tug at the end of the scarf once to adjust it, before glancing back at the screen. ] I would be.. grateful .. if anyone could tell me.. if they know a Dr. Jackson or Dr. Samantha Carter.

[ he pauses, as if he needs a moment to collect himself after talking so much, before offering a polite nod. ]

.. My thanks.

third person sample: Both of these are from dirtyvegasrp. The second link is a little suggestive, but neither are NSFW. He's his canon self in both of these samples, but his personality is the same, so I figured they still counted (though he's a little chattier in these than I usually play him).

case no: Whatever you like's fine!
