Okay, so I'm now completely focused on my dissertation... sort of. Considering I really wanted to have my first draft finished by yesterday, the above is really rather dire. However, considering the actual grim reality of my situation the above is not too bad! This thing is in next Tuesday, and as Monday is a bank holiday, that probably means I need to get it bound on the Saturday. Which gives me 4 and a bit days to come up with 6000 words. *weeps*
On the plus side, I am actually sort of enjoying it. I'm totally kicking myself for not starting sooner as there's so many fascinating article and books I would love to have read, and now I'm just having to skim read them. I could've written a kick-ass dissertation, but now, I fear it will merely be 'okay'.
For those who are interested I'm writing about the Uncanny and Post-humanism. My chapters focus on Frankenstein, Wall-E and then Blade Runner. If I can get my head round Derrida the final chapter will be all about how the future is uncanny. I think that one's going to be pretty trippy! (How gutted am I that the new Terminator film comes out the day before I need to get this thing bound!? It sounds like it would have been god material!)
Anyway, in a lame attempt to pretend this post is anything other than procrastination: a to-do list:
-By 1pm: Have a fully edited, and beautifully referenced introduction
-By 3pm: Finish my chapter on The Enlightenment, Automata and Frankenstein
-Re-watch Wall-E, take obsessive notes
-By bed time: Have 6000 words.
Right, back on it then!
