Dear Yuletide Author
First off: YAY! Thank you so much for offering one of my requests. I am super excited.
Some general things about me:
I like hockey, and knitting and long walks on the beach. I'm Classical Archaeology MA student, and reading fic is keeping me sane while I'm writing about ten billion papers. I've been a participant in Yultide for years now (at least four... maybe five?). You can check out previous Dear Yuletide Author letters and various bits of wingeing and excitement about Yuletide on my Yuletide tag.
In general I love fic which is true to the canon, and especially to the characters. That being said I love AUs and crossovers partially because, in my opinion, a well done AU is all about how the character is still the same even though the rest of the world has changed. Character and bantering dialogue are the two things that I like most. I also prefer stories with plot rather than just character studies, but since I mean it when I say that character is the most important, the plot can be something like getting a sandwich or whatever and I'll still be happy.
My Requests:
Honestly I can't think of any other details than what I put in my requests. I'll repeat them here for the sake of archiving. And I'll add anything I think of as I go.
Valor Series - Tanya Huff - Ressk and Mike Glicksohn
Things that I love:
1. Space Marines
2. Banter
3. The interactions between species and people in this series (both sexual and non)
I would like a Valor's Choice era fic (or pre-series) because I love Mike and Haysole and was sad when they died. But I will be ecstatic with anything you give me, I've been requesting this for a while.
- Important for you to know is that mostly I just want a Valour's Choice era fic with all those marines - they are made of awesome. I do like Torin - but she gets so much "screen time" in the books that I'd prefer the other guys. Also I've requested this several times, so there might be some good ideas in my previous Yuletide Dear Author letters.
Misfits - Simon, Nathan and Kelly
I just finished watching series 1 and it is awesome. These three are my favourite characters. Anything with dialogue like in the show would be amazing. I'd actually be fine with any combination of pairing for these guys, but also happy with gen. I'll try to come up with some more details for my Dear Author letter.
- I've watched the first episode of series 2 now, and it is hilarious and awesome. Something like the show is all I can say here. Simon broke my heart in episode 5, and I'm always in love with Nathan and Kelly.
Red (2010) - William Cooper
I found the character of William Cooper really intriguing. (Being played by Karl Urban helped a lot - but not entirely.) I would really like a story that gets into his character more: his family, missing scenes from the movie, the aftermath, etc. Preferably not something too introspective. His is a man of action after all. :)
- Also this character could've easily just been the foil to Frank Moses - and he totally wasn't. That is awesome.
