So a few days ago I found out that the TV series based on Tanya Huff's Blood Books was coming out, and then of course was distracted from doing important end-of-term type school work until I found out if I could actually watch it online anywhere. So I went looking around and even though none of my usual haunts had it I luckily found it on YouTube (thank the gods for YouTube). I even managed to have enough self control to only watch the pilot before I finished all my work. So far they've played five episodes if you count the pilot as two. And I love it!
It's just right!!!!
At first I was kinda worried, because I love the characters and the books and Tanya Huff, but she says that she really likes it (actually she seems like a kid in a candy store) and I actually agree. The things that'll take some time getting used to are Vicki being blonde (actually all of the characters have hair that's different from what's in the books or what I imagined, but for some reason the blonde Vicki just doesn't sit right with me) and Henry being a Graphic Artist instead of a Romance Writer (although it does give Celluci some great opportunities to talk with geeks in comic-book stores while trying to figure out who this Fitzroy character is).
It turns out that Henry is just right, too. The actor who plays him is actually the same age as my brother, but he's still really good at doing both the Prince of Darkness and the Prince of Man thing. And the sketching thing is rather hawt too so I don't think that I can complain that it's not accurate... He's also just the right height so that he has to look up when he's having pissing contests with Celluci. *smug grin*
I am so getting this when it comes out on DVD.
For any of you that are interested (and I highly reccomend both this series and the books, by the way) they have abunch of fun clips on the show's website with Tanya Huff talking about the show and the books and interviewing the actors and looking realy excited.
Here at the official site (you have to click on videos). The show is being aired on Lifetime, which is a channel that I've never heardof before but it seems like it's really the "chic-flick channel", so the ads have this odd emphasis on the love-triangle aspect that's not the focus of the show at all, which I think is kinda hilarious.
I am so happy. I love it when they do these things right!
ETA: From Tanya Huff's Blood Ties blog on the official site:
Look, let's be perfectly clear about this, BLOOD TIES isn't mine. Even the pilot, BLOOD PRICE, which is a direct adaptation of the book, isn't mine. It's Peter's and Danny's and Kyle's and Christina's and Dylan's and all the other talented people in the cast and crew who worked on it. I did my work on this more than a decade ago - these guys have taken my ball and run with it right into the end zone. Yay them! But you know what? I am so amazed by what they've done, so pleased with the result, I'm finding this entire thing so incredibly cool, I want to be a part of it.
I don't want to take the money and run. I don't want to be cynical or fearful or superior just because originally this was my idea. The only thing deathless about my prose is that it involves a vampire. And eventually a mummy. And a couple of zombies. And a whole bunch of ghosts. And a brain in a tank but that's another story...
Disavow this? Are you kidding? I'm thrilled to be permitted to be a part of it!
I want to watch talented people make my world theirs. I want to applaud and cheer and squee like the enormous fangirrrl I am. And I want other people to applaud and cheer and squee right along with me because it's just a heck of a lot more fun that way.
She is SOOOOOOO cool. Also reading her other posts about the episodes as they come out... they say all the same squeeing fangirlish joy type things that I want to say.
She is so cool.
