"Do you have one of those springy things?"

Last night was wonderful, I finally managed to have my two nearest and dearest friends over for dinner without the excuse of a party and without having to clear it with other members of my household. Much planning and anticipation went into this occasion, and I was very happy to finally have it happen. I think I did OK too, I bought the right wine (no easy task), I remembered appetizers and cocktail napkins, and I fixed the entire meal and dessert and everyone ate heartily and claimed to really like it. So, it went off without a hitch and I really had fun. It was a happy and historic occasion that I hope to repeat someday.

This morning, in a (successful) attempt to dampen my good mood, a small pathetic excuse for a tree branch took on my car's rear windshield and won. I think I discovered this within two hours of it happening, so there doesn't SEEM to be water damage to the inside of my car, but it is hard to say since there is shattered glass all over the back seat and the trunk cover which is directly under the rear windshield. I couldn't believe it, I was so upset and surprised and unprepared. It took an inexcusably long time to find the duct tape, and I never ended up finding a tarp, so I finally managed to cover the back of my car with a make-shift tarp composed of two contractor bags that I cut open and taped together in my frenzied rush to move cars around this morning, cover mine, and still get to the marta station to be at class on time. No one was here to help me, so I really hope my cover worked. It was lucky that Dad left his car here though, because that was the only transportation I had this morning to get to the train station. Because our insurance deductible is stupidly high no matter what type of claim I have, I will be paying out of pocket tomorrow to have it replaced, and that will suck because it's going to cost a few hundred dollars that I wasn't planning on spending right now, but at least it's only the windshield that's the problem. Body damage would have been much worse, and hopefully there isn't a lot of water sitting under the glass that I couldn't see or feel this morning. This was an experience that I don't hope to repeat someday, in fact, if nothing bad ever happens to one of my cars again I would be quite content.
