My internet has been acting up lately, but it is finally back to normal, so I decided to celebrate with an update. Life has been pretty good since the semester ended (a week ago today for me). My group documentary on street preachers (a.k.a the crazy people protesting at the Marilyn Manson concert) was very well received. Everyone who saw it had nothing but good comments, our professor even said we set the bar for the entire class. I was dreading the project at first, but I ended up really enjoying it, and it was rewarding to see the project through from start to finish. Now I have a product too that I could put in a portfolio or whatever, we made DVD copies and everything. "Dancing in Heaven" is the official title, but some people (me) think it should have been called "Say You Love Satan" because that seems more appropriate. Craig saw it and liked it, which made me happy since this was his field of expertise and since I did most of the editing myself. Phil, another editing friend, heard about it and wants to see it now as well, I'm excited that people are taking an interest, and it's encouraging to get good feedback on a first project.
Since the semester ended I have been making Christmas presents. I'm not completely cheap, I did buy some presents too, but it is fun making things. I've also been baking tons of cookies and giving them away, so far that is going over well, I found some really great recipes and they produce yummy results.
This past Saturday Craig and John had their Xmas party. It was wonderful! I went over around 3 in the afternoon to help them with the set-up, that was nice because I felt useful and enjoyed getting the extra time with them and they appreciated my help. I got to see a bunch of people that I like but don't get to see very often all in the same place, and I got to catch up with some old friends. I also got to meet some of Craig and John's friends that I had heard about before but never met, they were all very nice, it was fun. After everyone else left, I stuck around and helped Craig put leftover food away, then I left at 3am - 12 hour marathon, not bad. Helping them was definitely worth the extra effort because I didn't mind doing it and it made them really happy with me, and when they are happy they are especially sweet, so everybody wins. It was a great party.
Today I had lunch with Craig and Dianne. It was just like old times. I think it had been an entire year since the last time I saw Dianne, but we all got along well. I miss her. Craig paid for everything, as usual, my thinly lined pockets rejoiced. I'm lucky to have such good, generous friends.
Grades will be posted by Friday at the latest. I got an invitation to study abroad again, this time it's an international mission for diplomacy. Sounds like exactly the kind of thing I've been thinking about studying in grad school. There is a choice of 5 trips: Brazil, Australia, China, South Africa, and Central and Eastern Europe. It sounds like any of them would be amazing. Family drama has been high lately, but I won't talk about that. Johnny has been sending me cryptic emails from Mexico. It's hard to believe that this year is almost over already. Oh well, c'est la vie.
