Look at the bug,
so blindly it flies straight
into a web spun out
precisely for it to
get trapped in.
The sticky white strands
bind its limbs, as it
hangs there suspended
high in the air.
It kicks and tries to
tear away, to no avail,
in its struggle its
tiny paper wings are
ripped away, and lay
there stuck in the layers
of endless white.
Zoom closer.
See its pincers sawing
nothing but air,
its twiggy forelimbs
in a mad seizure,
hairs rippling back and forth.
Fear emanates from its
hard exoskeleton,
shivers run down its
body air molecules
dance to the vibrations,
sending wave after wave of
immense fright crashing
through the resilient web
but for all their intensity
they do not travel far.
Despair sets in slowly,
sinking seeping through
boiling body juices.
Steadily bringing the bug
under its tight clench.
The waves gradually subside,
replaced by a deathly calm,
a complete inactivity.
And a bacterial flurry
surfaces, the cells
start their decay process.
