Midnight at a winter's night, nostalgia, peace, going dancing.
breaks: Prog-rock, it just sounds like noise to me.
makes: Indie, bandom, lady with a piano, classical.
2
Light, colorful, pleased, happy.
makes: I will literally be happy with anything EXCEPT for what's in my breaks:.
breaks: Thrash metal. Lady Gaga.
3
Breaking free, moving forward, forever.
makes: My chemical romance, flogging molly, kings of leon, cher.
breaks: 30 Seconds To Mars
4
'Swinging Softly Through' 'And Is There Honey Still' and 'We're Not Yet' (just to get a feel of what I usually name playlists).
makes: I love everything from My Chemical Romance to Vienna Teng; soft indie bands like Paper Areoplanes, My Brightest Diamond, and Young Heretics as well as fresh takes on popular songs.
breaks: I really can't stand 90s pop groups for longer then a song at a time and Phil Collins does not butter my toast in the least.
5
I would like a mix of songs by girls about boys (or songs by boys about other boys, i'm not picky), if that makes sense? i keep meaning it to make it myself and haven't managed, so!
makes: Um, i like pop music and things you can bounce around to!
breaks: Nothing specific, really!
6
The Times They Are a Changin'
makes: Currently listening to lots of Conor Oberst, Jenny Owen Youngs, Abney Park, My Chemical Romance, Cursive, Damion Suomi, Brand New, Dead Man's Bones, and Mumford & Sons, but I love lots of things so you don't have to stick to any of those types of music. If you're curious if I like something my last.fm is here. I love getting a hold of things I haven't heard of. I love songs in French.
breaks: Lady Gaga, country and western, reggae, most current rap music.
7
Music that will turn that frown upside down (see also: a mix to facilitate the transition between self-loathing and ass-shaking).
makes: I like music with strong, thoughtful lyrics, and a good soulful wail never goes amiss. I also like Ke$ha, but as far as pop goes, I like my girls more than my boys. Britney > Backstreet! Except for Katy Perry. DNW.
breaks: The Young Veins, The Hush Sound, The Jonas Brothers, and any voices that are weird in a nasally or whiny way.
8
Blue skies, crisp autumn leaves, woodsmoke.
makes: Neo-folk (a la This Is Ivy League, Iron and Wine, Jolie Holland, etc etc), punk, garage rock, classical, jazz, blues, alt-country, 80s hits.
breaks: Not very fond of hip-hop, dissonance in general isn't my thing, along with heavy metal-style wailing guitars, artists who I can't listen to include Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen (it's a nasal vocalization thing).
9
Angry, driving, motivational. epic.
makes: I love rock - lots of guitar, drums, keyboard. but I'm open to new things too!
breaks: R&B, hip-hop
10
Magic music - stuff that sounds like they're putting a spell on you, possibly while going "double double toil and trouble" or maybe just sprinkling some fairy dust! (lyrical content doesn't need to match up necessarily--instrumentals are fine, too).
makes: Indie rock/pop, hip-hop, musicals, opera, metal, anything epic or sparkly
breaks: Top 40? (I hear a lot of it at work)
11
Take me through a day in your life (what you felt, what you discovered, what you thought to yourself when no one was around, the people you know who make life worth living, the things you do so often you've forgotten you do them). Most importantly, make me feel like I'm meeting you, mixer, and that you're having a blast making this mix ♥
makes: Introducing me to something new \o/ I adore mainstream and indie, classical and old classics, techno and pop, minimalism and R&B, alternative and folk; female singers and male singers, groups and solos, duets and trios; songs with a beat I can dance to and get stuck in my head, songs that make me laugh and are about love and hope and freedom, songs that are tragic and emotional and gut me with how heart-wrenching they are; different languages (even ones I don't understand! although for ones I do understand, try English, Mandarin/Shanghainese, or French)
breaks: I don't really have any but hard rap, screamo (really, anything that could potentially hurt my ears-- they're sensitive /o\;; ), and country have very short lifespans on my playlists P:

It's getting to be summer here, and all I want to do is read in the sun and bake and knit, instead of being stuck in an office. I would like a mix about that - however the mixer wants to interpret it. :D
makes: I like or am at least willing to try almost everything.
breaks: I'm not too keen on 80s synth or electronica, but apart from that, go for it!
13
A mix that you would give to someone you love- can be pensive or joyful, as long as it's heartfelt.
makes: Alt-rock, folk, pop, punk, world music, most things.
breaks: Generally i steer away from straight-up loud-bass techno, pop-country, and really heavy death metal, but I'm always open to trying new things.
14
Late-night music. anything from partying to writing to insomnia, i don't mind.
makes: I'm not overly fussed. I have very varied tastes, and I love new music, as long as it's not...
breaks: Horrible, trashy bubblegum pop, or really mainstream stuff. (also paramore).
15
I know there were sociopath mixes last time but I'm looking for something I can use to write a serial killer story (yes, yes I know) Something dark and strangely haunting but also beautiful.
makes: Dark and haunting and beautiful? Lol. Favorite bands are decaydance bands, but I'll usually give anything a try. I like good beats and lyrics that make you wonder. And songs that start off one way but end a different way, like Handlebars that was on one of the sociopath mixes :)
breaks: I don't really like slow songs. Not when I'm writing but it entirely depends on the song too. No screamo please :) Unless it's used in moderation.
16
Songs to get tattooed to.
makes: Fall Out Boy (okay, actually like 98% of DecayDance fits this list), Mountain Goats, The Horrorpops, The Sex Pistols, Prince, Creedence Clearwater Revival, etc. I'm kind of versatile.
breaks: Country, hip-hop/rap, death metal.
17
I would love to see a creative mix inspired by birds: literal (pet parakeet/bird-watching!), metaphorical (phoenix/rebirth!), dark (ravens/death!), light (swans/love!), references (The Birds/The Swan Princess)....etc :)
makes: I'm an indie pop/rock person generally, with a soft spot for electro-pop & folk-rock. currently I love Man Man, The Moulettes, and Everything Everything, but really I am quite open to new music.
breaks: I hate scratchy guitars and i am not a fan of outright country.
18
I'd love something to keep me entertained during holiday bakery/cleaning/decorating, but it doesn't have to be holiday music by any means! (As a matter of fact I'm pretty well supplied with Christmas stuff.) Just, you know. Music that keeps you going and entertained while puttering around the house.
makes: Yes, please My music taste runs wildly eclectic; anything from Snow Patrol to Dolly Parton. In general, I like stuff that's melodious. Something to clap/bop/sing-and-dance along to!
breaks: No, thank you: Pretty much any genre goes, though punk and other "hard stuff" (my God, I sound like my own grandmother) tend to be not so much my thing.
19
Summer, holiday, freedom, road trip, happiness.
makes: I have pretty ecclectic tastes. my favourite bands are bands like Stars, the Decemberists, the Like, the Young Veins, Counting Crows and artists like Missy Higgins, Sarah Blasko and Washington.
breaks: Any kind of metal. any kind of cock rock. r'n'b, hip hop, and most things found on commercial countdowns right at this time.
20
Something to do with new beginnings that are sad but/or hopeful or something that connects with alien-ness/being in out of space/some sort of altered state. \o/
makes: Aside from a random Johnny Cash fixation, lately I'm into female fronted outfits (Marina & the Diamonds, Metric, Florence + the Machine, etc) and I really like instrumentals (think Explosions in the Sky). However! I will listen to pretty much anything and like it regardless of language or genre.
breaks: None, really, except country pop. So basically nothing in the vein of Taylor Swift, but if you feel like the mix needs some legit blue grass, I'd be into it.
21
Something that evokes an adventure, a chase, being on the run.
makes: I do love my britpop/britrock, and am also a sucker for harmonising. I listen to a lot of indie rock in general? (Some band examples: By Sunlight, Bye Bye Blackbirds, Idlewild, Picture Atlantic)
breaks: Rap, hip hop. Really, really inane lyrics or lyrics that are just plain dumb.
BONUS: (an extra-credit ~request by a participant, in case anyone is inspired and wants to try their hand at it as well)
An epic, adventure mix, with trailer music and stuff
