Von Bondies were ace.
The girl that I had gone with went out drinking with them last time they were in town (which, given, was around 2004..wow.) and when we got there Jason bounded up to her to engulf her in a bear hug. A slightly amusing site to see an almost painfully thin 6'3 man drape himself over a 4'8, pink haired tattoo canvas.
The openers, in all respects, were decent, although as it happens with most openers the noise sort of went in one ear and out the other.
Regrettably, a rather short set, but certainly full of energy and enthusiasm. They have two new guitarists. Which, isn't that strange, but it also means that there are three guitars on stage which strikes me as..excessive?
The second to last song was just Jason and Marcie the bassist on stage singing a crooning poem about lost love, and the last song found Amanda and I, along with a few others on stage dancing along to The Fever. One of my favourite songs certainly.
After the show the band was selling merch, and I was poking around waiting for Amanda to get a chance to say hello and goodbye to Jason. The night wouldn't have ended so early, but they had to leave for Montreal right away which was a drag.
However what was not a drag was the unexpected and highly knee melting kiss I snatched from Jason.
I don't know what possessed me to do it. Amanda was talking to him about how she was going through her divorce and he mentioned that he is now also going through all of that garbage. Then he went on to say that he hasn't even kissed a girl since the whole thing began. I don't feel like I should blame it on the alcohol, but if I had been sober I certainly wouldn't have given him an odd look, said 'that's unfortunate,' then go on to say 'well here' and leaned in to give him a kiss. Outrageous. But so wonderful I know that if I at least attempt such things like that, I know I'm capable of acting on impulse.
Thankfully I did not receive a punch to the mouth or something. Nor any cry of outrage, just a smile and a 'thank you, that was quite lovely.'
I wasn't really sure what to do after that. I think I regained some of my level headiness; I just smiled and nodded then went outside while Amanda said her good byes.
Twas a good night indeed.
Apparently they are back in Toronto in May and plans have been made to make that night one of binging and pub hopping around Toronto.
Exciting I suppose, but I couldn't quite bring my excitement level up to that of Amanda's.
Just thinking about how long May is from now, what May will mean for me in other regards, and all the shite that's got to happen, or will just happen on it's own in between now and then.
Oi vey.
