We spent two weeks with our parents (my mum and EK's parents) in England. a week in Lake District and a week in London. We were pretty uncertain about the trip, given that the BA strike was on and the volcano in Iceland was threatening to erupt a second time. The week before, the kids and I were down with a stomach virus. Thank God we recovered by Wed, cos we were due to fly on Friday.
Everyone enjoyed Lake District due to the scenary. The weather wasn't all the pleasant and it was an unusually cold and wet week. Since trekking wasn't on our itinerary, our plans weren't really interrupted. As it wasn't the tourist season yet, most of the attractions we visited were not crowded and we managed to get some interesting conducted tours of certain sights we visited.
We made a trip down to Yorkshire. It wasn't planned, but it came highly recommended by the locals. It turned out to be the best day. We visited a waterfall, a creamery ( I certainly enjoyed the cheese tasting bit) and did a guided walk in white scar caves.
On our way to London, we had to deal with a punctured tyre. Thank God for Ek's dad, who made sure we had a spare tyre when we rented the car and who was able to get it fixed. Realised that I often take God's grace for granted and in things like that,
In London, we would visit the museums in the mornings and go to the park in the afternoon. It was chilly in the mornings and each of us would put on about 3 layers. After a while, we brought out a trolley bag, so it was easier to lug everything around. The parks were great and the kids loved the playgrounds. Ek and I liked the museums, but there was simply too much to see in such a short time.
Overall it was a good trip, though I must say the next time we plan such a major trip, Esta has to be much older.
