Two nights ago I was in a Persian Restaurant called The Dervish. To aid in its authenticity it had belly dancing on big plasma screens, carpets on the walls, and cushions. You sat at tables just high enough to stick a leg under, but if you did that then there was no room for anyone else.
So here we were - 20 of us - all sitting uncomfortably - bent into ridiculous shapes wishing we were thinner, and smaller, and more flexible.
Yes, but also yes. Yes to the W sitting, and I'll have to try the lying down, but probably yes. As for handstands, I never could do them anyway, and as far as I know I still can't :-)
(one fencing coach of mine claimed that women couldn't squat with heels flat on the floor, but most men could, although looking at the comments here so far, that seems to be not true ... )

My experience of teaching Kung Fu leads me to think the opposite - most men had problems (though there's always exceptions), most women couldn't see what the problem was (also with exceptions).
I remember a friend's sister (I'd have been about thirteen or so perhaps) telling me it was something "only girls could do", so it was apparently "common knowledge". Which I of course disproved.
