Echo Bazaar: Asher's Flat

Jan 05, 2011 23:10

Asher moved into the Royal Bethlehem Hotel a few months ago, and I imagine this will be his permanent home in the Neath (unless EBZ adds new lodging options someday).  Inspired by ls_cassius's lodging post (found here), I decided to create the layout of Asher's flat.  I have absolutely no idea if this is what a Victorian-era English flat might look like.  Google failed me this time, so I had only my imagination to work with.  I figured that the Royal Beth being a somewhat high-end hotel (despite the strangeness of their temporary inhabitants) would offer multi-room flats, as opposed to one-room studio-style apartments.  And, of course, every respectable Victorian home must have a sitting room!  Oh, a water closet too...with a bath?  No, they did have toilets in homes, but I think baths were still communal-type.  So no private bath for Asher.  But he needs a dining area, and I guess some sort of kitchen....

So I just kept adding on things until I got the final result - a bunch of space that Asher will hardly ever use!  Asher never really has guests over and doesn't cook much.  All he really needs is a place to store his things and some place to lie down.  But he's moving up in life, so he'll take his fancy Bedlam room and like it!  ...or just let his pets use the rest of the space.  Anyway, here's the drawing:
