every trip to brooklyn is different. sometimes i'm catsitting at teresa's house. sometimes i'm working at the cafe and switching between couches in ditmas park. sometimes i'm in williamsburg on doug's couch with tasha, watching angel and taking hot baths. this time though, i've spent the whole week at kriss'. due to both my budget and the climate going to hell in a handbasket, i stayed in the apartment most days. when i arrived, it was the day after kriss' birthday. i dropped my luggage off at his apartment and met up with him and cassie, alyson, stevie, christian, tj, and mg. we had a few drinks at night of joy, then walked to one stop beer shop. we drank until two in the morning, laughing and talking about all matter of people we'd met and shows we'd seen. steven joined the group, and as the bar closed we lost some of our number; those who didn't go home headed back to kriss'. i picked up five forties from the bodega, and we settled down in kriss' room to smoke and drink. we indulged in ordering mexican food around four in the morning, and kriss made a run for blunt wraps and ice cream. annie arrived at some point in the night, and we played scrabble and discussed racism. i think i slept at some point...i don't recall.
as for other adventures of the week, kriss and i worked tables at david's chocolate blog's one year anniversary party. i got to see ellie and annie [david's friend who is awesome and lives in nairobi], and i made some new friends while handing out samples of mint chocolates. everyone had a great time, and the party was written up in wall street journal! i was happy to help david with his pursuits outside of law and headwalking. he's done so much for me, and i have so few opportunities to repay him. the party ended fairly early, and kriss and i hopped into a cab headed back home. we picked up forties, and hung out at his place. he asked for some information on classic rock, and i played all the greatest songs i could think of. that was a supremely fun night, and most evenings here were similar in fashion. we watched both seasons of "better off ted", and i was thrilled that kriss liked it as much as i do. we watched some "malcolm in the middle", and managed to find two of the most fucked up movies ever: "machine gun preacher" and "putin's kiss". we ordered food in almost every night; one night burgers, one night tacos, plus the amazing deli sandwiches which cannot be replicated anywhere else. but beyond watching tv, eating great food, hanging out and talking about everything under the sun, there were some adventures had.
i went to see the second-to-last Bomb The Music Industry show. they were playing at the Warsaw, so lindsey and francisco met me at kriss' place, and like so many times before we got ready for the show together. more forties were consumed, and bowls smoked, and belated birthday presents exchanged. the slackers were opening so we got to the show earlier than we would've in the past. walking into the venue, ordering drinks with lindsey and francisco...i couldn't help but think of all the times we'd done just that before. we'd probably seen BTMI twenty times before; our favourite shows always being at John Bosch. i could never forget my twenty first birthday: i was wearing my grey t-shirt, and lindsey was drunk on sparks, and Bomb's set fucking killed. i crowd surfed in the garage and danced harder and longer than i ever thought i could. there were so many friends in the pit, new ones made just that night, including the boy i now think of as one of my closest friends, mr. siffert! after the set, we went to crown royal chicken with sam and joe lupo, and then trekked all the way back to bay ridge where we were living at the time but of course, not going home just yet but rather drinking with hatter at his bar until lindsey crawled home and i stumbled back to hatter's to vomit all over his mother's bathroom.
