to play baseball.
for him: to guide and give a leg up. to bestow the ace in the hole that trumps sneering faces and squinted eyes with missing teeth.
to be strong enough to weather the darkness that is from then to now.
for him: to hit and run and be chased; to comfort the man; showing there is less to fear and mostly joy to be had.
