Thirty Questions about Writing -- Day 9

Aug 07, 2010 10:55

9. How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.

Sometimes people have babies, and so do my older characters that have been around for almost as long as I can remember. I don't really get ideas for these kind of characters, they just sort of come into being when I start to imagine what kind of parents my characters would make, and how that would influence a little one.

With characters for newer stories it's a little bit more difficult. Usually it starts with one, and then I craft the other ones according to the plot. Babies may or may not get involved after that.
