I'm a bit behind...

I should have updated this journal several times before now, there has been things happening. The virus scan gives plenty of time to do so now...possibly one huge entry to come, possibly several smaller ones. I'm in the mood to write just now, so I'll see what happens.

Actually I'm specifically in the mood to write my magnum opus - my OBR (Original Battle Royale) - a reworking of the concept of Battle Royale - societal breakdown causing school children to be isolated on an island and forced to kill each other - set in Scotland using characters submitted a couple of years ago by various forumers on the main BR forums. I am a character myself, as is my best friend from Dumfries, although neither of us survive. You see, I've never quite gotten around to writing the damn thing. It's going to be huge, as I'm not limited in any way. I want to do it eventually even if nobody ever reads it but me, simply to say I have. It's taken on a certain symbolic significance in that respect. I've got the ending sorted though - and I even know how a sequel would go. It would involve the winner, Jenna, (who's fate was to be left unresolved at the end) having faked her death (numerous suicide notes purporting to be from her were going to appear, but the validity of any of them is questioned in the narrative) and attempting to rebuild her life under a false identity.

But the last words to the class of someone with whom she had a love hate relationship - actually me - still rang in her ear even more than two decades later. "The legacy of the Anti-Clique [my social circle, political and religious misfits who only fit in with each other, not fitting in with any other groups] will be sealed with the kiss of a blade". It was an insane rambling, but the Anti-Clique actually does have a legacy, and Battle Royale Caledonia 2: A Legacy of Blood and Blades would see Jenna, who after the 24th programme was witnessing the government and media revisit her mysterious disappearance, embroiled in a secret civil war between various factions hoping to gain in some way from the 25th year programme (which was being touted as an important anniversary).

These would include the spirit forms of several of her former classmates (not all of whom made it to heaven, with those, including me, who did not in a separate faction to those who did), her own friends and family attempting to help her, a highly partisan and disorganised "official" resistance movement, and various government bodies hunting down all those attempting to create unrest as well of course Jenna herself. The finale would involve absolute chaos during the 25th programme, with the probable outcome being Jenna causing the Battle Royale Act to be repealed, but losing her life in the process, with the resistance movement (the Alliance of the Condemned Ones) taking over the whole country in an ill-advised coup which leads to centuries of  unrest and war.

I can't do a happy ending, I just can't. Life doesn't have a happy ending, just ongoing misery, so although the sequel will never get written, I do know if it ever did the result would be chaos. I like knowing where I'm going with stuff like that, it's interesting to plan the sequel before writing the first one!

Hmm. Not how I envisaged this entry going. Guess I'll leave this alone, and put the rest in another.
