Of course, I couldn't leave well enough alone... addreamy May 16 2013, 04:57:25 UTC
So I took it a second time, with EXACTLY the same answers, mind....and got this:

Mary of Bethany

Congratulations! You are Mary of Bethany, sister to Martha and Lazarus, loyal follower and friend of Jesus. But you probably already knew that, didn't you - or at least suspected it? Indeed, Marys are sensitive, intuitive and observant to the point that some of your friends are suspicious you might be psychic. Sometimes even you are tempted to think your brain-waves are tuned into the ESP network. Mary was, after all, the only one to really figure out what was going to happen to Jesus. While the disciples were still bickering about the superficial stuff like money (something no Mary every worries about!), she was anointing Jesus for burial.

But in reality, you know that you only seem psychic because you are paying attention. While others are running around worried about the trivial things (*cough* Martha *cough*), you are taking in every. last. detail. of the world. You are an idealist at heart, and want to know everything there is to know - particularly as it relates to your emotional life. You are more concerned with a person's inner life than their superficial qualities and actions, and you often are able to use your insights about them, and life in general, to make or do something beautiful.

Okay, so maybe you are a little dramatic - you can't help it - the life of a Mary is a little dramatic, too. I mean, first Mary's brother, Lazarus was dead, and then he wasn't; then Jesus was dead, and then he wasn't. Translating those experiences into dramatic displays of affection rather than detrimental, emotional instability (of which, by the way, you are more than capable) is a good thing.

Indeed, you must be careful of over-identifying with friends - allowing their pain to become your pain. Once you bond with someone, you become a loyal and devoted friend who is willing to sacrifice just about anything for them - sometimes too much (a year's wages??). And heaven help you if friends fail to acknowledge your sacrifices, or someone gets seriously hurt, because Marys at their worst can withdraw into the world of their own pain, becoming easily disillusioned and discontent. So strong was Mary's grief over her brother that Jesus himself was "deeply moved," - going immediately to the tomb to weep. This is one of only two times we know of Jesus being moved to tears - a true sign of a Mary's power.

Marys at their best are compassionate, sensitive, creative, and modest. They are able to translate their own pain into a strong empathy with others, and in the process help others do the same (even Jesus!). All of this makes a Mary of Bethany a pleasant and perceptive companion, and an ideal disciple.
