Wanderlust

There were very few people that understood that she was a kid as well as being the Archive. Even Kincaid, who had been with her since her birth and knew her the best, forgot that under all of that ancient knowledge there was a twelve year old girl. It was how she'd been taken by the Denarians. If she'd only stayed where she was supposed to instead of going to see the otters, maybe things would have been different.

As a punishment to herself, Ivy no longer dreamed of going to Disney World or to Six Flags. Instead, she'd focused on being the Archive, on doing what she'd been destined to do. Ivy felt that she owed it to Kincaid and Mr. Carpenter to do her job and nothing else. They almost died because of her and it was little enough sacrifice to join with the others and forget that she was a twelve year old.

Late at night, however, the one thing that Ivy couldn't control was her subconscious dreams. That was where she traveled the globe just to have fun. In her dreams, Ivy went to the Mall of America, Hershey Park, Disney World, France, China, Great Britain and Hawaii. Places that past Archives had been and lived so they came alive for her. The one notable exception was that instead of reliving those memories through dreams, Ivy was experiencing them for the first time through the eyes of wonder.

Ivy experienced a little bit of guilt when she woke up every morning, that she'd indulged in that side of her. Try as she might, she couldn't stop them from occurring and she finally gave up, guessing that her need to be a kid along with her responsibilities as the Archive was strong. So while during her waking hours, Ivy never talked about going to Sea World or even indulged in the travel channel, her dreams were filled with fun, adventure, wanderlust and laughter. Everything that a normal twelve year old girl would dream.
