We ended up doing a little writing exercise together and this is what came of it.  Some of you asked for fluffy On/Tae at that Challenge me thing so I hope this fits the bill. This picture was open at the time I started writing so I think it influenced me. :D The rings referred to look like this. It's called a Claddagh Ring and is a bit like a friendship or couple ring. Patience is a virtue, Jinki told himself. He told himself that at least five hundred times a day. It helped, a little. Sometimes.

He fingered the slim silver ring on his hand, spinning the band with its clasped hands and heart around and around under the loosely wrapped yards of fishnet on his hand and arm. It signified his attachment to the very reason he needed patience in the first place. It also got a host of helpful noona's fitting him with gloves for performances since he refused to take the thing off. Taemin usually wore his around his neck on a chain under his clothing. Even though Jinki automatically looked for the ring on Taemin like a drowning man looking for a life preserver he knows should be there - Jinki understood that Taemin's piano practices alone required that his hands be free sometimes. At least, that's what he told himself whenever his mind prickled with flashes of jealousy and possessive impulses he usually couldn't act on without causing trouble.

Taemin was still on the wrong side of adulthood which left Jinki in a peculiar predicament. Eyes on the younger man who was laughing at something one of the younger dancers had said to him; Jinki repeated the same phrase again. Patience is a virtue.. Even leaving aside the fact that they were in a semi-public place and there were cameramen everywhere - Taemin was still too young. Jinki reminded himself that he was not a pedophile either...and he could wait.

Ha! He told himself ten minutes later, watching Taemin demonstrating some dance move or another in his fluid, boneless way. Waiting was like a burn that never healed, never stopped aching. Taemin gave him a look sometimes, as if he knew that Jinki had to walk into a cold shower after every cuddle session they had because the younger man was simply too tempting for his own good or Jinki's peace of mind.

Taemin didn't even need to glance across from where Jinki was making small talk with Luna to know that just a moment before the older man had been staring at him. Eating him alive with his eyes was how Kibum described it. He licked dry lips before Jinki looked his way again, ducking his head so as to not be caught staring at his boyfriend. One hand came up and rubbed at the shape of the ring on its chain around his neck through his shirt and jacket. The feel of it was comforting in ways Taemin didn't want to think too much about.

It meant that he belonged to Jinki and Jinki belonged to him. Stuff like his age and their careers and everything else couldn't change that simple fact - and it was a relief to know that. He smiled when Jinki looked up towards him, pleased when Jinki's sexy face lit up with a warm smile in return.

Automatically Taemin began threading his way through the crowds, bowing and smiling here and there but never completely losing track of where Jinki was in relation to himself. He bobbed up on Jinki's left hand side and waited quietly to be noticed. The minute he felt the indefinable sense of Jinki's presence near him, Taemin breathed a small sigh of contentment. He needed to be where Jinki was if at all possible. When Jinki lifted his brows questioningly, Taemin leaned forward and whispered into the older man's ear above the noise.

"I missed you," he said.

Jinki smiled at Taemin, the whisper sounding softly against his ear. He reached out under the cover of the crowd around them and took hold of Taemin's hand. Giving the slender fingers a small squeeze he leaned closer to the younger man.

"I missed you too," Jinki agreed. For a moment, he glanced at Taemin's lips and acknowledged fully the temptation of that pretty mouth. He satisfied himself with another warm squeeze of Taemin's hand, resolving not to let Taemin go for the rest of the evening. Having him so far away from him always made his patience level dive into the sub basement.

There were so many things Jinki couldn't do, in this time, at this place - or in fact anywhere. Time would change that so all he could do was wait. Right now, he'd love to wrap his arms around Taemin's slim, lithe body. But he'd done that a few weeks ago when the temptation and love got too much for him. There was enough talk; he didn't dare start more.

"Jinki," Taemin said softly, watching the room around them but never quite losing sight of Jinki's changeable expressions. He smiled his affection, his encouragement at the older man when he turned his head toward Taemin questioningly. Taemin threaded their fingers together, loving the strength imperfectly hidden in Jinki's warm palm and thicker fingers.

He shifted after a little while, backing up so that he stood behind Jinki. He was just tall enough to lean against his boyfriend with a smile as if he was just playing around. In fact, Taemin felt the same temptation that he knew Jinki felt. Jinki never saw himself the way other people did; he was too self-critical for that.

Which meant, Jinki never saw the temptation inherent in his smoldering dark eyes and curving lips. He never understood how Taemin had to swallow his impulses to cling when Jinki called a halt in the quiet dark of his bedroom. As far as Taemin was concerned, Jinki was everything seductive, everything perfect in a being, man or woman.

Taemin's body felt delicious pressed lightly against his back and it was all Jinki could do to keep his expression sociable and laughing. He held that much tighter to Taemin's hand in order to keep the younger man close. Jinki thought in that moment that he'd willingly investigate ropes and chains if it meant Taemin would never leave his side.

Even if they never progressed their relationship from this point; Jinki could live with it. Temptation and passion were simply part of the package when one was in love with a creature like Taemin. He shifted a little and tilted his head to one side, so that his and Taemin's cheeks brushed together. Jinki forced a smile instead of giving into the fierce impulse to kiss Taemin's jaw.

"You okay?" he asked, ignoring a fresh burst of flashbulbs going off.

"I'm fine. Ready to blow this pop stand though," Taemin replied stepping away a few small paces so that they could look each other in the face.

"I need a shower," he said, wrinkling his nose and making a face. "I hope I won't have to arm wrestle Kibum for the hot water."

Jinki laughed and shook his head, flipping back the overlong drape of his bangs aside with the same motion. "You'd better hope not, because MinHo helps him with that...and...you and I together couldn't win that battle."

It really didn't matter what Jinki said at this point. He and Taemin were communicating by the glances from one pair of dark eyes to another, from the press of one hand to another. However difficult waiting might be...it was worth it.

Even if Jinki was praying for patience, for fortitude, for endurance morning - noon - and night. Even if Kibum and Jonghyun kept giving him books on meditation and the kama sutra in spurts of so-called helpfulness. He looked at Taemin's glowing face, felt the warmth of his hand in his and everything else was simply obstacles. They could be circumvented; if not now, then soon enough.

Taemin grinned watching Jinki's face, clearly reading the warmth of affection and desire in the older man's eyes. Whatever tension was riding him earlier; it seemed to have faded away now. Taemin liked to think it was his presence that brought that look of serenity to Jinki's features. He sighed and squeezed Jinki’s hand again.
