It took a moment for Selena to remember where she was when she woke up. Then everything slowly came flooding back to her. She felt the warm body pressed against her own and she couldn’t help but smile at how nice it felt being in the older girls arms. They must have fallen asleep watching movies. She was surprised at how content she felt since the only other person who she had fallen asleep watching movies with was Demi. She scolded herself for thinking back to the other girl who obviously didn’t want anything to do with her. They had been best friends for years and maybe they would continue being friends, but Demi would never be able to love her in the way Selena had loved Demi. It just would never happen.
I want your horror
I want your design
‘Cause you’re a criminal
As long as your mine
I want your love
Love-love-love
I want your love
Lady GaGa’s voice filled the hotel room and Selena immediately recognized it as the ring tone that belonged to Destiny’s ex-girlfriend. Not that Destiny had ever said it aloud, but Selena had recognized the pain that shone in her eyes when the song played. It probably mirrored her own expression whenever someone brought up her former best friend Demi. She heard Destiny groan beside her, but the older girl made no movement to get to her phone. Instead she felt Destiny’s hold on her tighten. It was if they were sharing the same thought. Selena didn’t want the moment to end. She wished she could freeze time so that they could stay like that forever. She wished the world would just disappear and leave her happy forever. Selena moved so that her head was buried in the crook of Destiny’s neck.
“What is that?” Selena mumbled into her neck.
“My cell phone,” Destiny replied sleepily.
“Maybe you should answer it,” Selena whispered, half hoping Destiny refused, “It could be important.”
The phone went silent. Neither of them spoke for a long time. Selena didn’t push Destiny to get up and call her friend back. Nor did Destiny make any movement to get up. Selena felt herself drifting back into a happy sleep when the sound of Taylor Swift cut through the quiet.
I’m not a princess, this ain’t a fairy tale
I’m not the one you’ll sweep off her feet
Lead her up the stairwell
This ain’t Hollywood, this is a small town,
I was a dreamer before you went and let me down
Now it’s too late for you
And your white horse, to come around“Your friends are anti-sleep,” Selena muttered.
“That isn’t my cell phone,” Destiny said as she giggled.
It was then Selena realized that it was her own cell phone that was ringing. She knew it was Taylor Swift calling. She figured word had gotten back to Taylor from either Jennifer or David about how she had been acting on set the day before. She knew that if she didn’t answer that Taylor was going to keep calling until she answered. She reached over and answered it just in time. Yet she made no attempt to move out of Destiny’s arms.
“Hey Tay,” Selena said sleepily.
“Oh sorry I didn’t realize you were sleeping still,” Taylor apologized, “I just wanted to call and see what you’re doing while I’m in LA.”
Selena’s eyes widened when she processed the fact that Taylor was in town. That could only mean one thing. The blonde country singer had to be on her way to the hotel room. Just then there was a knocking on her hotel room door.
“Are you knocking on my hotel room door Ms. Swift?” Selena teased.
“Maybe I am,” Taylor replied, “I only called to make sure you were awake.”
Selena glanced down at Destiny who had fallen back to sleep. This was going to be very interesting trying to explain what had happened to Taylor. She didn't answer the door right away. She brushed her lips against Destiny's forehead before she managed to untangle herself from Destiny without waking her up. She grinned when she saw a smile creep across the older girls lips. Then she turned and headed over to the door. She quickly fixed herself in the mirror by the door making sure she was somewhat presentable. She opened the door and found her best friend standing in the hallway holding two cups of coffee.
"Morning sleepy head," Taylor grinned.
"Morning," Selena said taking the cup of coffee before moving to the side to allow Taylor entrance.
When Taylor entered she immediately spotted Destiny sleeping on the couch. Just as Selena expected she turned to find Taylor with a confused expression on her face. It didn't take a rocket scientist to guess that Taylor was confused about why there was someone sleeping on her couch. Selena just motioned for the singer to follow her to the bedroom.
"So whose the girl Lena?" Taylor asked once they were in Selena's room, "And why doesn't it look like you slept in your bed?"
Selena blushed feeling her cheeks get hotter by the second. Taylor just giggled and Selena knew that the question could go unanswered. After all Taylor had known all about what had happened between her and Demi.
"I'm glad you found someone new," Taylor told her.
A part of Selena wanted to correct Taylor. She didn't know if her and Destiny were ever going to go anywhere. But it felt good finally telling someone that just maybe she was finally able to move on from Demi and be able to let someone new into her life.
