Chapter: 3/?
Chapter Three
Destiny stared nervously into the mirror of her bathroom at her reflection. She quickly gave herself a once over as she tried to figure out if she looked presentable. In just minutes she was about to meet Selena’s best friend Taylor Swift. She knew that Selena was going to introduce Destiny to Taylor as her girlfriend and that was if Selena hadn’t already told the blonde country pop star about her already. Destiny had never been so scared in her entire life. This was funny since there had been plenty of times in Destiny’s life that one might consider scarier then meeting her girl friends best friend. The memory that stuck out the most was when her Mom had kicked her out of the house when she found out about Allison. Destiny had never thought she would find an event that would be scarier than the thought of being homeless. Yet here she was staring nervously at herself wondering if Taylor was going to like her. She knew that Taylor was very important to Selena which meant that she would have to win over Taylor. Destiny didn’t want Selena to have to choose between her or her best friend.
“Come on Destiny, pull it together,” Destiny muttered to herself, “You’ll be fine.”
Destiny ran a shaky hand through her silky hair. She glared at herself in the mirror as she mentally told herself to calm down. An exasperated sigh escaped her lips. She reminded herself how she had been able to pull herself back onto her feet after being tossed on the street like worthless trash. If she had been able to recover from that than she’d be able to meet Selena’s best friend. Destiny glanced over herself one last time before she headed out of the bathroom. She padded down the hallway towards bedroom to see if Selena was ready yet.
Destiny was still surprised that Selena had even invited Taylor over. For the last few days that Selena had been on vacation neither of them had bothered to change out of their pajamas or go out into the world. Destiny pushed the thought from her mind as she entered her bedroom. She quickly spotted the back of Selena as she leaned into the closet.
“You almost ready Lena?” Destiny asked, surprised that her voice didn’t show how nervous she actually was, “Taylor should be here soon.”
Destiny watched as Selena leaned backwards out of the closet for a moment. She shot a questioning look in Destiny’s direction before disappearing back into the closet. Destiny figured that Selena hadn’t heard her question. She was about to repeat herself when Selena came out of the closet, a black duffle bag in tow. Destiny’s eyes widened when she realized what Selena was holding.
“How come your dance bag was in the back of the closet?” Selena asked, confusion written all over her face.
Destiny had been hoping that this topic wouldn’t have come up so soon. How could she tell Selena that she had quiet dancing right after she had gotten back to New York? How could she tell the other girl that her heart had been so broken that she hadn’t been able to dance without thinking about her? Destiny turned her gaze to the floor.
“I quiet the dance team,” Destiny mumbled, ashamed of the words that she was speaking.
“Why?” Selena asked, “You love dancing. You loved being on that dance team.”
Buzz!
Destiny sighed with relief when she heard the buzzer signaling the arrival of Taylor Swift. Destiny was suddenly glad that the country singer had arrived. She wasn’t looking forward to the conversation that was going to follow about the dancing. She knew that Selena was going to forget it.
“I’ll go let her in,” Selena said.
She dropped the duffle bag back in the closet before she headed past Destiny to answer the door. Destiny watched Selena pass. Selena was almost out the door before she turned to face Destiny once more. She shot Destiny a look that screamed this conversation wasn’t going to be forgotten easily. Destiny nodded her head, letting Selena know that she understood.
Buzz!
Selena turned and left the room when she heard the second buzz from the door. Destiny told herself that everything was going to be ok. She was no longer afraid of meeting Taylor anymore. She was more afraid of what was going to happen after Taylor left.
~~*~~*~~*~~
It was only by the powers of coffee that Demi had been able to get herself awake enough to make herself presentable to head to her photo shoot. No matter how much Demi wanted to just head back to her apartment and crawl into her bed never to wake up she knew she had responsibilities. Her responsibly being that she had to get the pictures that would be used to promote the new season of Sonny with a Chance.
Demi arrived a half an hour early so that she could get her hair and makeup ready for the photo shoot. When she entered her dressing room she spotted her co-star Tiffany Thornton already sitting at the mirror getting ready.
“Hey Tif,” Demi said, as she headed over to her own dressing table.
“Hey Demi,” Tiffany said as she turned her chair around to face the other girl.
Tiffany studied Demi intently as the other girl gulped down the rest of her coffee like it was the last coffee in existence. Then she watched as Demi pulled out an energy drink from her bag and proceed to down half of that as well.
“Late night?” Tiffany asked.
Demi’s eyes sprung wide open, the drink still positioned next to her mouth. She almost looked like a deer caught in headlights. Tiffany knew immediately that something had happened. Something that Demi had been hoping would not come up. Demi lowered the energy drink to the table beside her.
“Yeah,” Demi replied, “I was hanging out with Chloe last night and time got away from us.”
Tiffany had known Demi a while and even though she couldn’t read Demi the way that Selena had been able to she knew that the other girl wasn’t telling her everything. Even though Tiffany wanted to push about what had really happened last night she knew that she wouldn’t. She knew that Demi would just clam up and they would have a fight about it. It had happened way too many times.
“Alright,” Tiffany finally said, “Just don’t drink too many of those they aren’t good for you.”
Demi nodded her head slowly. She didn’t give Tiffany a chance to say anything else as she turned around to get herself ready. Sure she was glad that her co-star was concerned about her, but she just didn’t want to deal with concerned friends at the moment. She was way too tired and confused for that. Demi pushed all of her thoughts to the back of her mind as she focused on getting ready for the photo shoot.
“Hey Dems,” a familiar voice said.
Demi flinched in her seat. It had been so quiet since her conversation with Tiffany that she hadn’t been expecting anyone to speak. Demi spun around in her chair and found Chloe standing behind her. An amused smile etched across her lips.
“Chloe you scared me,” Demi exclaimed.
Chloe didn’t say anything as she silently held out a coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Demi glared at her a moment before her face softened and she took the coffee.
“Ok I forgive you since you have caffeine,” Demi told her friend.
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Tiffany staring for a moment. It was as if her co-star wanted to say something, but she didn’t. Demi was glad for her silence. Instead Tiffany rose from her chair.
“They’re ready for us,” Tiffany told her.
“Ok,” Demi said, “I’m almost done.”
Demi watched Tiffany leave the dressing room. Once she was gone her and Chloe began laughing at how Tiffany had been acting. Once Demi recovered from her giggles she sighed and lowered her forehead onto the dressing table.
“How am I going to get through today?” Demi groaned, “I’m so tired.”
Chloe didn’t answer right away. Instead she heard the other girl rummaging through her bag for something. Demi lifted her head to see what the other girl was doing. Chloe pulled out a small bottle. It looked like it was a pill bottle. A look of confusion crossed Demi’s features.
“What’s that?” Demi asked.
Chloe pulled out a small white pill and held it out for Demi.
“This will keep you awake and focused all day,” Chloe replied.
Demi eyed the pill unsure if she should take it or not.
“Come on Dems,” Chloe whined, “You trust me right?”
Demi sighed, knowing the other girl was right. She silently took the pill from Chloe’s outstretched hand and downed it along with the cup of coffee. She could only hope that the pill would work and keep her awake long enough to get through the photo shoot.
