Note the punctuation: the Westway is the A40 out of London. West Way is a road leaving Oxford; or, from my perspective, leading there.
When we re-moved to Oxford, we were glad to find a flat in haste and in Botley. I'd thought of it as a dormitory suburb and haven't revised my opinion. That's not a complaint. It doesn't matter that the place I live is quiet and dull when it's only ten minutes to the city centre.
Nonetheless, the area has some character. I thought its buildings (from the 1930s to the 1960s) deserved recording, if only because no one else would:
All around Botley I have introduced myself to neighbours, who are uniformly polite and unforthcoming.
j4 thinks it would be creepy to expect friendship but all I hope is to know their names. (We could just look at their post in the shared hallway.) The shopkeepers in the newsagent and the deli surely know our faces but I could patronise them for years without learning more than their opinions on the weather.
