The
picnic_meme was realised. I want to emphasise its unorganised nature with a still more impersonal construction like 'it picnicked'. Unorganised but not disorganised:
simont had printed sticker strips for our usernames, letting him estimate the attendance at 94. I don't know if several very small children count as one choice, but it was a pleasure to meet
mockduck accompanying her Item all the way from Brighton. Unrelatedly, other people brought a disposable barbecue and a first aid kit. There was only one outbreak of juggling.
I had a brief talk with
mobbsy about turning computer games into films and it was appropriate after that to see Sim City at the Arts Picture House. Sorry, that's
Sin City, but it does have fine aerial shots of a grid of skyscrapers. I'm neither a film geek nor a comics fan so I was apprehensive about a film based on comic books with a directorial credit for Quentin Tarnation. But it's a great story, or rather three great stories linked in sequence rather than intercut as I expect in cinema. My only quibble is the absence of moral ambiguity in the characters; there was rarely any doubt who to root for. Famously, it's a great-looking film, marrying the colour-in-monochrome look of Pleasantville to the stylized comic look of, er, Dick Tracy: The Movie. And there's more rain than Blade Runner.
I've already moved to Cambridge de facto; I may soon be moving there de jure.
