I rushed
Janet to Greenwich to open our birthday cards and presents then rushed her out again in a fantastic particoloured dress. Poptimism wasn't the extravaganza of lurex & lycra that the flyer had suggested, but there was music and there were people who were young and alive, and the songs ranged widely enough to let me dance at
Ewan for 'Close To You' and Janet for 'I Wanna Be Your Dog'. Now that I'm old, I find it hard to speak within range of speakers, but I was glad to greet
Dan as he was leaving.
Nick and
Kellie had come far and
Tom had come still further (from Cheltenham); to make up for this Tom danced more and more uninhibitedly than anyone. My nonblogging housemates now seem readier to believe that on the Internet, you don't have to be a dog. We left at one o'clock as people began sitting down to watch the election result, which was another success.
Juliette and
Jon share their birthday, by ludicrous coincidence, and they were first to arrive at the pub for the celebrations in Cambridge. It wasn't long before a shower drove us indoors to protect our pints from dilution, and we slowly gathered more Oxford refugees over the afternoon. Back at Jan and
Siôn's house,
Eleanor presented me with what she didn't realise was a
marvellous bow tie,
August provided a
dream of badgers and Jan displayed her unputdownable
bookcake [photographs by
Nile]. Thank you all, and I hope these will be the first of many parties shared with Janet.
This is a picnic meme.
There will be an LJ picnic on Jesus Green, Cambridge, UK on Saturday the 11th of June, from around 2pm. We'll meet toward the town end of Jesus Green. Nobody is organising this, it'll just happen. Please turn up, be sensible, bring food and drink, meet new people, have fun.
Copy this invitation into your LJ. Let's make this a picnic to remember.
