Hey DJs! Wanna take it to the next level???
Most of my new clients come from a DJ demo CD I've given to someone. You cannot beat the value of a good demo for booking more gigs and getting higher paying clients!
If you have the skills to get gigs, you need the tools! All your talent is wasted if you don't get your demo mixes on to CDs and into the hands of the people who are going to refer you for DJ gigs! You've got fans that want CDs, that want to enjoy your music - and you should give them something awesome, they deserve it!
I can help you make a professional quality DJ demo CD that will blow the doors off of every place you want to perform!
Yes, you can put your Traktor mixes on Soundcloud, link to your Facebook and look just as pro as the rest of the amateurs. Even hosting your own music site doesn't help if nobody goes there to hear it, and it doesn't get you spinning in their car. Sure, you can make a great mix on your computer and burn a CD - and your name looks great in Sharpie, but the DJ who has the professional packaging gets on the flyer, the poster, the marquee. Why? Because they took it more seriously, and made a better product, and it got them more attention.
How can I be so assured in my statements? Check out my resume and references on www.addamidiom.com and www.djaddambombb.com - I've played for top notch clients in top notch venues around New England, New York, half the US and around the world! I have seen, and continue to see, the direct benefits of having professional, high quality DJ demo CDs!
Think about it - if someone hands you a oily disc covered in fingerprints in a sleeve made of notebook paper you already aren't impressed - it's an ugly thing with no perceptive value. If someone hands you a sharp looking, retail-ready disc in shrink wrap that's never been touched by human hands, well... that's immediately something valuable! You don't throw it away, you check it out! They made the investment in their music that makes it worth the time you'll invest in listening to it... it's impressive!
Getting a good product :
The packaging only prevents your CD from getting immediately thrown away. You have to have substance to go with your style!
Honestly, sadly, most of the dj mixes I hear sound like crap. A lot of them have great music in them, talented djs... but the mixes themselves are unlistenable. Poor volume control, poor programming choices, poor fidelity - even bad source material, like using badly compressed mp3's instead of good quality tracks - these are all things that can be avoided and with a little guidance they could be great mixes.
That's what a producer does! Every musician works with producers to make their recordings sound great. You've probably seen a great band with a bad recording get no gigs, and then make a better recording with a good producer - suddenly they get better gigs! The producer helps them arrange the songs and the albums better. He controls the recording environment so everything sounds good, so the guitar player can just go off a play and not worry about it. Most guitar players aren't really producers... some are, most aren't. Same thing applies for DJs!
I started mixing bands live in the 80's, and the bands I mixed got more gigs because they sounded great. I recorded as a drummer with a few bands. I studied audio production for broadcasting when it was all analog and have produced spots for commercial radio. I have been earning my keep a professional event and nightclub DJ since 1995, with thousands of gigs under my belt. My first single was a top ten on the Myspace independent artist charts in 2006. I am educated in digital audio production, I produce custom audio projects for my wedding and corporate clients as well as re-edits of music for my live DJ sets... and that's a start.
I can help you sound your very very best! A project price of $250 includes a pre-production consultation to get you ready to record, 3 hours of engineered studio time (recording, editing and production), basic mastering and all pre-press work. I can travel to you with my expenses covered, or you can travel to me in Northampton, MA.
Packaging layouts with your artwork are included in the project price - professional photography and graphic design services are available at an additional cost. Additional studio, production, and general hand holding time is available at $50 per hour.
Pressing costs $3.25 per unit, with a 25 unit minimum order. These are NOT (emphasis on NOT) cheesy computer CDs with print out labels - these are high quality CDs that are retail quality - the only way to get a better pressing is to start a record label of your own! The CDs include full color disc printing, full color front and inside cover insert, full color tray card, and are packaged in jewel cases and cellophane wrapping.
Delivery time from final proofing and order is about two weeks, shipping price varies and is not included in unit price, all orders are shipped media mail (around $12 for 25 units, around $35 for 150 units). Please allow for possible shipping damage when you order! Any damaged units will be replaced at no charge, but turnaround time is a few weeks.
Think about this - you could very well recoup the entire expense of producing a professional quality DJ demo CD in the first gig you get from putting one in the right hands.
And yeah, you'll get the finished mix as an mp3 that you can upload to your Soundcloud, too. ;)
