Name: r_p_m (Ryan)

Age: 30

Location: Canada!

About me: An educator, a person knowledgeable on his local history, a sometimes-podcaster, and an INFJ to the Myers-Briggs crowd. I've been blogging about some story development related stuff at storycrafty.wordpress.com, but I may start cross-posting to my LJ, too. I like long walks, draw'ring, gaming, and salads.

About my journal: I usually just write about the mundane goings-on of my life. I try to punch it up with images now and then. Sometimes I rant, sometimes I review, sometimes I wax philosophical.

What I write: I enjoy writing in fantasy and science fiction, but occasionally write fiction that's a little closer to home. I like to write in-universe histories for my fantasy story. I also write non-fiction training resources for work on occasion. Oh, and scripts - for stage, screen, and graphic literature.

What I don't write: I can't think of a genre I wouldn't at least try. I know I won't do fan-fic; it feels like playing with someone else's toys, and I have some good ones of my own.

How did I get into writing: I always had teachers and parents telling me I was good at creative writing as I grew up; did some online text-based RPGs as a teen and got into character development in storylines that way; started blogging regularly in 2002. And I think playing with action figures as a kid and voicing all of the characters and trying to understand each character helped me get into character-driven stories.

What I read: Oddly, lately, not fiction! Mostly nonfiction like professional development, history books, and reference books for creative writing. Oh, and graphic novels. I really dig graphic novels.

What I don't read: Fan fiction, b-canon novels of popular franchises; not because I think it's bad, I have just always had this thing about reading something that isn't a-canon. Sort of seems not worthwhile.

Could I edit someone else's work? I bet I could. In fact come to think of it, I have! I don't really have the time for that just now, though.

What I'm looking for: I think I am interested in people who share their creative process, and who may inspire / seek to be inspired as a matter of collegialty. But some similar-minded friends would also be nice! My LJ is slowly creeping back to life after a slow year or two.
