Greetings

I posted on here way back, so I'm refreshing my 'profile' as it were. :)

Name: My real name is Gary, but I also answer to Kaa.

Age: 46

Location: The Greater Atlanta Metropolitan Area (i.e., one of the many suburbs of Atlanta, GA, USA)

About Me: I work as a code monkey at a major healthcare company. I have two 19-year-old estate cats that I inherited from my grandparents when they both died in 2008. I live in a large house (with a large mortgage) with a housemate. She is studying to be a chef. I get to eat the practice meals. I am originally from a small, rural town in Alabama. I do not sound like I am from a small, rural town in Alabama. I write a lot. I read a lot. I love animals, hanging out with friends, Mexican food, and autumn. I hate annoying people, traffic, food with tentacles, and summer.

About My Journal: I write about writing, but I also write about other topics that interest me as well. I write about skeptical things, things that get under my skin, and things that amuse me. I always try to make my posts amusing, or at least entertaining. I slacked off for a while because Facebook is shiny, but I realized recently that I love to write longer posts and Facebook is all about...the shiny.

What I Write: All my short stories for a while were turning into novelettes, novellas, or just plain novels. Or, as I like to put it: My short stories were developing a pituitary problem. But a series of flash challenges at which I seem to be pretty good made me want to re-visit the short format. I have four novels in various stages of completion. Three of them are the result of NaNoWriMo. The fourth is a result of me really liking a first sentence I wrote down one day as an exercise, and basically never stopping. My genres are science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, dark fantasy, horror, and I occasionally mix humor into those. Of the three novels, the epic fantasy is "finished" but decided it needed to be a trilogy (of course), the hard sci-fi is finished and needs rewriting, and the urban fantasy is "finished" up to the point where the detectives discover who the murderer is.

What I Don't Write: I don't write romance, slash, splatterpunk, cyberpunk, steampunk, YA, poetry, anything with sexy vampires or sexy werewolves, military, or erotica. All of which (except maybe the first two and the last two) are subject to change. :)

What I Read: Mostly science fiction, fantasy, and horror, with a heavy emphasis on urban fantasy (that's my genre of choice). I also read some non-fiction and 'scholarly' books for research purposes (like the history of witchcraft or werewolves).

What I Don't Read: I don't like long, rambling novels that take forever to get to a point. I will read anything if it interests me. I do shy away from anything military or political, though; I can get all of that I want in about 5 minutes on CNN.

Could I Edit Someone Else's Work: I suppose I could, but I'm not really in the business of doing that. With a full-time job and three writing groups...it can get sticky. :)

What I'm Looking For: Just interesting people who can put two sentences together without one of them being OMG or LOL.
