Age: 26
Location: Montana, USA
About Me: I graduated from college in 2006 with a BA in English and history, and since then I've been working at a small accounting firm (a job which pays the bills, but that's about it). I'm married and have an orange and white tabby cat named Sticks. I love animals and volunteered for many years for the Humane Society of the United States. I'm also an avid but picky video game player. And I love history. In particular, I'm attracted to ancient history but I'll happily read up on almost any era...excluding most of World War II which I'm just plain burned out on and American Revolutionary War history which for some reason I'm just not that interested in.
I've been writing since I was very young. For the first five years or so, I wrote mostly really terrible original fantasy. And then in high school I discovered fan fiction. I've been writing that ever since and still dabble in it from time to time. But in the past several years I've swung back into original fiction again.
About My Journal: My journal is mostly personal...talking about my life, my family, my cat, and what I'm watching on TV. But I also talk quite a lot about writing since it is such a big part of my life. And I also occasionally post bits and pieces of my writing when I want critique and/or opinions. I update frequently, but not every day.
What I Write: In original fiction, I am currently working on a historical fantasy set in Etruscan Italy circa 474 BC. I also have several in-progress novels involving stereotypical things like dragons and vampires that I've been writing purely for my own entertainment. In the world of fan fiction, I write almost exclusively for Final Fantasy 8. Although I do have a straggling fic for the tv show La Femme Nikita that I may or may not ever finish. My works tend to be long adventure stories with a romantic sub-plot. I do not write poetry. At all. The world is better off that way.
I Like to Read: Almost everything. Classics, fantasy, sci-fi, westerns, romance, non-fiction, some poetry. The only genres I don't read much in are memoirs, chick-lit, and modern mainstream fiction that doesn't have some sort of adventure bent
Can I critique someone else's work: Absolutely. My grammar skills are relatively good, and I've been writing for long enough now that I think I have at least a little bit of advice to offer. I probably cannot critique poetry, however.
Favorite Authors: Douglas Adams, Ray Bradbury, James Rollins, Salman Rushdie, Eoin Colfer, Neil Gaiman, Mark Twain, Wilbur Smith...I obviously need to read more books written by women!
What I'm Looking For: I have a lot of friends who write fan fiction, but not many that also work in original fiction. I'd like to meet some fellow serious fiction writers to commiserate share the beautiful experience of novel writing with. I somehow feel like this will help me stay more on track.
