My taxes are done!

I am not dead, just even busier than usual. I have been working 10-12 hour days every day for the last month or so. I have a conference coming up in the first week of May. The data for that talk is not something I have obtained yet, so you can understand my panic stringent work ethic.  Anyway, some accumulated news and random bits of information:

Yay! Congrats Auntie-to-be! Being an aunt has certainly increased my desire to spend time with my family and visit FL about 45400%. You're going to love being an aunt. It's awesome. I can't wait to hear stories from proud Auntie Kerri about her adorable niece/nephew.

It sounds like your roommate is being really good to you right now. I am in favor of this.

Wow, your mom and my mom should attend a workshop together on Driving Your Graduate Student Child Crazy. You have my sympathies. My personal favorite is when she questions me about exactly what research I'm doing, lets me talk for a while, and then reveals she didn't understand more than two words. Then she wants me to explain in a way she understands. This happens Every. Time. We. Speak. I spend SO much time thinking about how to tell people about my work on every level (from technical grant proposals to teaching children about birds) that I don't want to have to think about translating it for my mom every time we talk.

Also, Lucinda and Zila (my car) should meet. They seem to be timing their misbehaviors together, and for the least optimal times.

Yay for exercising making you feel better the rest of the day! Kudos to you for making time for exercise. My own exercise resolutions have fallen by the wayside.

Thanks! I am super excited. I have already purchased little tiny socks I saw at Target.

My roommate is being fabulous about all this. I am trying to help out as much as I can, but she is still doing the lion's share of the cooking. I think that I must look even more tired and stressed than I feel, because she is being super helpful.

She has been worse than usual lately. My sister said that, apparently, my mom is fishing for info b/c she heard from Mikey that I told my dad I had a job offer or something. I was like "I have a job offer?" So yeah. Don't know what's happening there, but I will have to clear the air.

Well, Lucinda almost killed me on the way to work this morning, so I hope Zila is behaving better.

Thanks! It really makes a huge difference having a partner. I don't always make it, b/c sometimes I have to go in early and start lab work. But 5 days out of 7 is pretty good.

I <3 tiny socks. Also, new niece or nephew = excuse to buy They Might Be Giants cd's. (Their Here Comes Science album is great:-) And every cute children's book you see. I think I kept my local Borders afloat the past 2 years stocking up on baby books for Jayden (I started as soon as I knew he was coming). I recently weaned myself off buying them (one kid only needs about 328 cardboard books about animals). A few weeks later, my Borders had a going out of business sale. Coincidence? I think not.

Zila has not yet attempted murder, but she did get a flat on the interstate last week. For some reason no tire place in Abq has Honda Fit tires in stock, so she's still got a donut, so I'm not supposed to drive her. And my last spare bike tube got thorned recently, and without a car to drive to the bike shop to get a new one.... you see the problem. Matt finally took me to a bike shop today and then fixed my bike for me, so I can get to school tomorrow without damaging Zila further. Because of course this all happens when Matt is a couple hundred miles away for work and can't help me.

Getting a flat on the interstate qualifies as attempted murder. How can they not have Honda Fit tires in stock? There are like 15 of them in my parking garage alone. Quite popular lately.

And isn't that they way of things? Everything broken with no one to help. I am lucky that my roommate has been able to drive me around a bit.
