Vera Nazarian, a speculative writer and publisher, has hit some hard times, plus the current mortgage crisis. If her name sounds familiar that's because she wrote "Dreams of the Compass Rose", among other things. Her press is called
Norilana Books. To find out more about her story, donate and/or see what they have up for sale in the auction, take a look
here.
The community raised enough monies in the first few days alone for Vera Nazarian to get her and her 76 year old mom out of danger of foreclosure, which is beyond awesome.
Unfortunately life is still a bitch because it turns out that the sewer main replacement which we all thought would be good to go has hit an unforeseen snag. :(
This means that the original estimates will not be enough to get the house payments current AND pay the plumber. For more information about what exactly is happening on that front, see
here.
As such, the donation button and the auctions are back on until December 20th. If you're in the mood to donate a bit or take a look at the pretties to see if there might be interesting gifties available while also helping an author in need, take a look
here. There's still a good bit of stuff and new auctions are coming in as well. Things like rare books, tarot readings, crafts, photos, manuscript edits, etc.
For long term beyond the terms of this fundraiser, take a look at
Norilana Books. The press has some pretty interesting books and I may pick up a few myself once the Christmas madness is over.
As ever, please feel free to spread the word and link back to the community. If you have any questions, please direct them to the organizers who can be contacted via the community.
