Antigone #8

When I first heard about Antigone, I thought it would be difficult to read because it was written in greek the era, but it is easy to read and understand. The plot was really good and it was heart breaking as well. Antigone was the hero in the story. she was really brave to want to bury her brother, Polyneices. To hear that the King has made it illegal for anyone to bury Polyneices, must have stirred the family loyalty in Antigone’s heart because she loved her brother. She went to bury him and Creon later caught her and sentenced her to be buried alive in the tomb. Everybody told and warned Creon not to do this disciple act to Antigone, but his pride and his want of keeping the throne made him stubborn and deaf to people’s warnings. He wanted to show everybody that he was not to be messed with and that to go back on his word would show him weak. However, he rescinded the verdict a little too late and a series of events happened at the end of the story. Antigone killed herself, Haimon, Creon’s son as well as Antigone’s fiancé, killed himself because he loved Antigone so much and was devastated to learn that his father was going to punish Antigone for being loyal and brave for her family. When Haimon’s mother, as well as Creon’s wife, learned of this news, she promptly killed herself as well. Creon was devastated to learn all of this happened and was sad that he pardoned Antigone too late.
