1973, Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Harry Goodhart, the British widower father, has come to Cape Cod to begin a new business and begin a new life where he can be accepted and live the life he wants. The Cape Cinema presents the first public screening of American Primitive in an effort to raise final funds toward the future release of its world premiere. This poignant coming-of-age film centers on two young girls being raised by their father after their mother's death. He opens a store selling painted furniture (the "American Primitive" of the title) in conjunction with a friend with whom he shares a secret which threatens to tear the family apart. Set in the 1970s and beautifully shot on location on Cape Cod, the story is based on real events. The exciting ensemble cast features talents including Susan Anspach (Five Easy Pieces, Play It Again Sam); Adam Pascal (Rent); Tate Donovan (The O.C., Damages); Stacey Dash, (Clueless); Josh Peck (The Wackness, Drake & Josh); and James Sikking (Ordinary People, Hill Street Blues).
