Hello hello!
I'm still here. Sorta. I guess I should say my body is here but my mind has left the building some time ago. :P
I've had an interesting week. First off it was so bitterly cold and granted it was only two days, those two days felt like two weeks. The first morning on Thursday I woke and the actual temperature outside was about -12F. My nose hairs felt like they wanted to crack off. My car didn't want to start but she turned over with a bit of coaxing.
I went to work, my car pissed and moaned when I went home but otherwise she was fine. Friday... Friday was worse. It was about -20F outside and since my car had suffered two days of severe cold with no garage, she just would not turn over. So muttering and cursing, I called AAA to which I was told I would have a 20+min wait time and probably an even longer wait for a tow truck to give me a jump. My second thought was to call my uncle but it was 6:45 in the morning and I didn't want to disturb him. So I called the service center I go to get my car fixed and he told me to call a tow agency not far from here.
They told me that they'd be there in about half an hour, 45 min. An hour goes by and by now it's 8 o'clock. I call them again and I was told that they were down two trucks and they couldn't actually give me an ETA of when a truck would get there. Now I'm pissed. They could've told me this an hour ago. So I call another tow company and at least they were up front with it: 4 hour wait. Uh. No. Now the reason why I'm all hot and bothered to get to work was because I had a ton of overtime that could go right out the window if I take the day off otherwise I would've said fuck it and stayed home.
I called my uncle, he came over, I get to work at 9 which means I have to stay until 6. UGH I'm never doing that again unless I absolutely have to. My mom and I went to Costco to get a new battery since I still have the original and it's about four or five years old. Unfortunately for that, I apparently have a size 3 battery which is THE most popular size and just about every car has one. And since it's been so cold everyone's been changing out their batteries.
Ah well, I get paid this week and it's supposed to be warmer (in the teens! Heat wave everybody! Break out the Bermudas and flip flops!) so I'm not too worried about my battery conking on me at least until next Friday.
Anyway while we were at Costco my mom got me
this beauty as a very early birthday present. All 9 seasons plus some posters and crap. Is that not all sorts of awesome? I wish it had the movies in there too but for the price that's fine by me.
I have today off (WOO!) so I had some very excellent Indian food and now I'm watching Cloverfield listening to the icicles melt and crash into the side of the house. I read something on Roger Ebert's website that said, "If you want to survive an apocolypse, hide out in the Statue of Liberty's head or torch." Not in this movie. :P
Tomorrow's the inauguration and I so SO wish I could watch it. *sigh* Because no matter which party you're from, it's friggin' history. It's one of those, "Where were you when...?" moments that you'll be talking about for years and your kids will be asking about when they learn about it in school.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my cousin's babies. My cousin's wife had twins shortly before Thanksgiving and I wasn't able to see them until Saturday night. The one, Sasha is absolutely adorable. Quiet, not too fussy but her sister Nora.... Holy shit. I think she has a touch of colic or something because she would not. shut. up. And she's like that all the time apparently. She slept for about 15 minutes on my lap and then for the two and a half hours we were there, she was screaming the entire time when she wasn't nursing. The girls were quiet a total of half an hour. For both, not individually.
Seriously, I wanted to bash my head in by the time I left. They'd get quiet and fall asleep and then my mom would be like, "Hold Nora" and she'd wake up squalling, and then Sasha would go down and then my uncle was like, "Hold Sasha," and then SHE would wake up squalling. *headdesk* I wanted to just go. My mom wanted to wait until my aunt came back into the living room from settling Nora down and then she wanted to wait until Sasha settled down and then she wanted to wait until my uncle finished eating and so on and so forth and mind, the entire time one of the girls was screaming.
Maybe it would've been different if they had been my kids instead of someone else's but all I wanted to do was leave. I wasn't mad at the girls, I just wanted to GO. There's nothing that can pierce through your eardrums than a newborn's shriek. In stereo.
