Ok, before spoilers, here were the few pics I took from the DH book party that took up all of downtown Naperville. It was... odd. Lots of people dressed up. Some half heartedly with just a cape, some full out (there was this guy who made an AWESOME Snape. Young Snape though. Hair, robes, cool nehru sexy black tunic thing), some... thought it was Halloween. There was one guy dressed like The Cat in the Hat... and one guy dressed sorta like a pirate... or a Minute Man from the American Revolution. I'm not sure...
Anyway, it was fun. CROWDED though. By the end of the night I was tired, cranky and feeling a bit agoraphobic. I can handle crowds, just not the constant noise noise noise! It didn't help that I'd been there since 4pm and didn't leave until 12:30am.
Umm... yeah. Knockturn Alley and Day Spa. I believe that says it all.

Most of the signs were lame and were like that orange one at the top, but this one had a ready made sign. All they needed to do was add the Harry. My friends and I were outraged to learn that Harry moved to Naperville and opened a bar. We HAD been spoiler free up until that point!
This was the only good pic I had of the 18 and over costume contest. And even still it's pretty crappy. They had the contestants lined up in rows behind each other and they'd pose, do their shitck if they had any and then walk off, but every row of contestants (including the awesome Snape) stepped out from beneath the lights and you could hardly see them. Ah well. Quite a few Trelawneys I must add.
Just finished reading Deathly Hallows a little under an hour ago. I began when I got home around 2ish last night, read until about 3:30 when my eyes began to cross and then woke up around 7 and read until 6 on the dot.
I'm just... I don't think I'm able to absorb everything quite yet. My favorite characters, Tonks and Remus were killed but it wasn't so much that they were killed but they were horribly mutilated before they were. And I don't mean by Greyback. Tonks (I think) remained pretty much in character the three seconds she was in the book. Remus... I think I lost all respect for JKR after that pathetic scene in the kitchen. That is not Remus. When he said he regretted marrying Tonks and wanted to leave her alone and pregnant? I think that was when she lost me. Completely.
And then to not even dignify him with a death scene? ALL the Marauders had a death scene except Remus. SO NOT ON JKR!!! SO NOT ON!!! How could you give fucking DOBBY a death scene (an entire chapter no less) and completely DENY who is undoubtedly one of your most loved characters?! I think I'd be ok with the books, even their deaths, if she hadn't done that. Because honestly, when she said a "pair" (her words) would die, I immediately thought Tonks and Remus and I've been preparing myself for what would ultimately become reality.
Oh and you have to just love the wink, wink, nudge, nudge she gave us H/Hr shippers with the locket horcrux. First of all I mean honestly, was it a horcrux or a boggart? And secondly, I loved the H/Hr kiss... EXCEPT THEY WERE EVIL!! WTF people?! WTF?! LOVED the Andy/Ted interaction, completely wibbled when Ted died (and then wibbled more when I realized Andromeda was completely alone when she lost everyone except her grandson) and I loved how much time Bill got! XD And you know what, I have to say and I hope I'm not tooting my own horn, but my Bill in SHH is completely spot on when it comes to characterization and temperment. XD
And was it me or did the entire book seem like one really long piece of fanfic?? Don't even start me on the epilogue (*GAG*), but seriously, there were moments when I had to pause and look at the book and remind myself that I was reading the actual book and not fanfic.
I just... I'm just adrift right now. I think I need to step away from HP for at least tonight, let it all sink in and process and then scrub my brain with a toothbrush because in all honesty, I think that may have been the one and only time I will read that book. I didn't hate it, I just don't like the fact that a) it's ended and b) what she's done with it.
So I'm going to go take a shower, get something to eat, and chill for the rest of the night hoping like hell to forget the book.
