~Dreams Really Do Come True~

Long ago, there was a man named Eber Lambert.

He was handsome, the perfect bachelor. He attended parties and fit perfectly in society. But it didn't stop him from spending all the time he could with his only son.

Adam was only a child when his mother died. He barely remembered her. But everytime Eber looked at his son, he could see his former wife hidden in Adam. But Adam needed a mother.

It was crucial for a child to grow with each parent. And without a mother, Eber feared he wouldn't be able to give Adam what was best for the child.

It grew heavy on his mind until a woman about his age entered an aquantence's party. She was beautiful, and vibrant. Eber danced with Camila, the beautiful girl, all night. She was smart and funny. She even had two sons of her own. Eber felt she was a perfect stepmother for Adam.

After months of dating, parties, social gatherings in which Eber brought the new love of his life, they married. Adam was happy his father was happy, but couldn't understand what his father saw in this woman. She was cruel to Adam and so were her sons, Brad and Neil.

Adam still enjoyed the alone time he could spend with his father at the fountain behind the house. His father was always busy with his new wife, Adam barely saw him. But it was nice when it was the two of them near the fountain that Adam's mother had loved.

"Son," Eber said, "You're mother was a dreamer, you know that?"

Adam shook his head, listening intently. His father never spoke of his mother, and not now, especially since Camila hated hearing about her. Eber smiled at his only son, seeing his first wife as he does everytime he looked at Adam. "She loved dreaming. She dreamed at night and dreamed during the day."

"You can dream while you're awake?" Adam asked. He was only eight at the time. Eber laughed. "Of course! Day-dreaming was a hobby of your mother's," said Eber as he ruffled his son's strawberry blonde hair. "She dreamed about everything. About living a life where she was happy everyday. She dreamed for happiness, laughter. She dreamed so much. I never had the heart to tell her to come back to Earth. I enjoyed it when she went on her dreaming rants."

He paused, as if remembering a particular memory. Adam loved seeing that look on his father's face. Happy. Adam had noticed it left Eber's face after Camila moved in. "She dreamed of a son," Eber continued. "A son who would dream as much as her, and actually accomplish it. Promise me you won't stop dreaming, Adam."

"I promise, daddy," Adam replied, hugging his father. When he turned back to the house, he could see Camila, Brad, and Neil watching him. They were upset. But Adam didn't care. For he dreamed that one day, he'll be happy. Happier than his father was before Camila. Happier than his mother was.

****************************

When Adam was twelve, Eber grew sick.

Adam stayed at his father's side until Camila would kick him out. The first few days, Adam would complain to his father. Tell him why Camila wasn't good to leave everything of his to. Why his father shouldn't leave Adam to her. But Eber would always tell him to stop being silly and said woman would tell Adam to leave his father alone.

But after Eber got sicker, Adam spent his time with his father reading books to him and telling him all of his dreams. Adam would tell his dad about him living in a castle, a view so beautiful every king in the universe would get envious.

One of those days, Adam told his father he was gay.

It scared Adam at first. He thought his dad would shun him on his last days of life, but Eber suprised him. He hugged his son and told him "don't stop being who you are, just because it's easier to be someone else. Keep dreaming, Adam. Keep being who you are. Your mother would have been proud."

Adam had cried. He knew deep down his father wasn't going to make it. But to be confronted with the reality of the situation this way, it hurt Adam.

It hurt even more when Adam lost his father forever.

*****************************

Eber had left his only son to Camila.

His will said once Adam was twenty-one, he'd get everything, but until then, Camila had taken it all. She forced Adam to live in the attic, wear ragged clothes, and do insane chores. But Adam never complained.

Most of Adam's chores were dirty work. He cleaned the chimney almost everyday, since Brad and Neil were always cold, and would get cinders in his hair. Brad and Neil would laugh and mock Adam. But Adam liked his hair dark.

He then decided to dye his hair black. He would save the small amount of money he gained and would ration the amount he used. He couldn't do much for his freckles, though. He grew from an insecure pre-teen to a gorgeous adolescent. But no one dared to speak to him, for fear of Camila's wrath.

But Adam kept dreaming.

What he didn't know was that there was another boy across town, who dreamed like him.

******************************

Thomas Joseph Ratliff, the king's son, has lived in the castle with everyone expecting stuff from him.

When he was six, everyone expected him to be all proper, to stand straighter and to talk smart. So he skateboarded with his friends around the castle to prove a point.

He liked being rebelious when everyone tells him they expected something from him. So when his dad told him they expected him to marry a woman, he wanted to burn down the whole damn castle.

He'd told his dad he didn't like women like that. That he wanted to change the society's views. To show them that two men can be happy. He'd heard what people were saying behind his back. He wanted to make people understand that it was okay that way.

He was angry after his father told him that. But there was nothing he could do. When he was eighteen, Tommy's father sent out an announcement about a ball.

*******************************

Adam had just finished scrubbing the tiled floor when the doorbell rang.

He groaned. Now one of his stepbrothers or both will go running to the door and tread dirt on the floor, making him have to clean it all over again.

As expected, Brad and Neil ran across the white and black tiled floor, mud footprints spreading across it. Adam tugged his beige shirt down and dipped the brush in the basket full of water, working on the first pair of footprints.

"ADAM!! GET THE DOOR!!"

Brad and Neil stopped. "But mom!"

"I said, Adam!"

Adam stood, wiped his hands on his pants, and went to the door. His two stepbrothers were already in the front hall, along with their mother. Camila's hair was greying at the temples and her gown looked absolutely ridiculous.

Once the door was open, a stout man cleared his throat. "Hello. May I speak to the Lambert family?"

"Move!" Brad exclaimed as he pushed Adam aside. Neil came beside his brother and they began shoving each other.

"Boys!" Both boys stopped as Camila entered the room. "May I help you?"

The man cleared his throat again.

"I have news from the palace. King Ratliff has invited every maiden and man in town to a royal ball, where Prince Ratliff will choose his future spouse."

"A ball!" Brad exclaimed. "Mother, please let us go!" Camila smiled sweetly. "We'll be there. Thank you for coming!"

After the man left, Adam closed the door. "Can you believe it!" Neil asked his brother. "Maybe I'll get to be Prince Ratliff's prince charming," Brad said with a smile. They giggled as they bounced around.

Adam was stunned. EVERY man and woman were invited. "So I can go right?" he asked before he could think it through.

Brad and Neil stopped celebrating. "Mom!

Camilla smiled an malicious smile. "Sure, Adam." She held up her hand to silence her son's protests. "But only if you finish all the chores, make sure Brad and Neil look spectacular for the ball and fix my gown. Then wash the windows, do the laundry, and make sure that the chimney is cleaned for when my boys get home and need warmth."

Brad and Neil grinned a grin so similar to their mother's.

********************************

"ADAM! WHERE ARE MY BOOTS!!??? AND WHY AREN'T THEY CLEANED YET??!!"

Adam sighed as he polished Brad's black boots. At this rate, he'd NEVER get to the ball. He looked longingly at the suit currently hanging on the inside door of his wardrobe. He'd pulled it out of the trunk his father had given him. The suite was Adam's father's wedding suit. If he made the right arrangements, it would be made from an Eber suit, to an Adam suit.

"ADAM!!"

"Whatcha' doin', Addie?"

Adam looked up to see Kris smiling at him. Kris was a mouse. He was Adam's only best friend, beside Cass who was currently struggling as he tried to climb up the table.

Adam held his hand out, palm up, to help Cass. "Doing chores. Can you believe I have to finish EVERYTHING by myself? I'll never make it to the ball. Guess I'm just meant to be treated like a servant until I turn twenty-one."

Adam grabbed Brad's polished boots and left the attic.

"Awww. Addie's not gonna have his dream come true! We gotta do somethin'!" Kris said. Cass rolled his eyes. "No, duh! I have the perfect idea of how Adam's suit will look," he said as he held his hands out in front of him, the suit perfectly fit in the rectangle of his fingers...

********************************

Adam threw his attic door shut, sliding down onto the floor. He sighed as he leaned against the windowsill, head in his hands. "It's probably boring anyway."

"Addie! Suprise, Addie!"

Adam turned to see Kris, Cass and a few other mice cheering as the wardrobe doors opened. Adam gasped at what used to be his father's suit.

It was a regular white suit, A line of pure glitter going down the sides of each leg of the pants. But Adam's eyes were transfixed on the boots. They were white leather and ended at the ankles. The bottom was black, as was the heel.

It looked beautiful.

Adam kneeled and rubbed his fingertips over his mice friends' heads. "Thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me."

Adam tried it on, first the black shirt and white tie, then the jacket, pants, and boots. He looked in the mirror, thinking how good he looked. He smiled and flat ironed his hair before going downstairs.

Camila looked furious when she saw him. "What are you doing!?"

Adam smiled. "You said if I finished all of my chores and helping you, Brad, and Neil get ready, I could go. I finished all my chores."

"Did you wash the windows?"

"Yes."

"Laundry?"

"Yes."

"Chimney!?"

"Yes."

Camila was angry, it was obvious. Brad and Neil smirked, which made Adam's smile fade. They were thinking up something.

"Hey, isn't that my cuffs?"

"I-"

Brad snatched them off of Adam, ripping it from the suit. "Aren't those glitter sashes from MY pants?" Neil ripped both from Adam's pants.

"Aren't those my-"

"Hey! That's my-"

And on and on it went. Until Adam stood there, suit ruined and humiliated. Brad and Neil laughed as they left, entering the carriage that would take them to the ball.

Adam ran into the garden, tears falling down his face. He was hurt, embarassed. How could they do that to him? How could they make him feel so bad?

He sat on a bench in the garden and cried. His face was obscured by his hands. He cried because of his dad, who married that witch when he had told him who she really was. He cried because his stepmother was a cruel bitch. He cried because Brad and Neil were spoiled asses.

He felt a tap on his shoulder. "Go away," he mumbled into his hands. He felt a tap again and when he looked up, he almost jumped out of his skin.

An older man stood in front of him. "Who are you? How did you get in here? What do you want?"

The man smiled. He had a goatee and his black hair was spiked up. His nails were painted black and he wore a whole lotta leather. "My name is Monte, I got here by magic, and I want to make your dreams come true," he said as he counted down the answers to Adam's questions.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm your fairy godfather. Now, we need to get you to that ball." He thought a bit. "Go get me a pumpkin."

Adam's eyebrows knitted in confusion, but he did as was told. He brought back the biggest pumpkin he could find. "Now what?"

"Now, I'm going to turn it into a carriage. Stand back now. Oh, shoot, where's my wand?" He patted his pockets. "Oh, yea." Monte reached into the sleeve of his leather jacket and pulled out his wand. "Okay. What's those words again? Bopity....no. Bapity...." He snapped. "I got it!"

Monte held his wand over the pumpkin and swung it around as he said, "Bippity, Boppity, Boo!"

Adam watched, amazed, as the pumpkin grew into a beautiful carriage, it's stem growing and weaving into wheels. Adam felt better already.

"Now, we need horses..."

Monte looked around until he saw Kris and Cass hiding behind the bench leg. "Hey! Come here mice."

Both of them tip toed slowly over. "Bippity, Boppity, Boo!"

The two mice floated and turned into two white magnificent horses. Adam clapped. "What else?"

Monte looked around. "We need to find you a horseman." He spotted the neighbor's dog sniffing the vegetables. "Ah ha! Bippity, Boppity, Boo!"

The dog moved back and stood on two legs, until he was a man. "Great. Now off you g-"

He turned to Adam. "Oh no, this won't do. Hmmm..." He snapped is fingers and moved his wand around, saying the magic words. Adam closed his eyes as he felt a cool breeze surround his body.

When he opened his eyes, he felt......different. He went to the fountain to see his reflection. He looked marvalous.

His jacket and pants were made out of silver satin. It glittered in the light. He turned around, admiring how he looked. His blue eyes were outlined in black eyeliner, something he could never get his hands on. His hair was slicked up, looking like Elvis Presley's, only with his own style intertwined in it.

He noticed blue highlight in his hair. He rushed to his fairy godfather, hugging him tightly. "Thank you, thank you!"

That's when Adam saw his shoes. They were similar to the one he'd worn before, except these sparkled. They seemed to shine with every step. They were made out of leather, and fit perfectly on him.

Monte smiled. "Well? Off you go!" he said as he pushed Adam into the carriage. "And Adam! Remember, at the stroke of midnight, everything will turn as it was! Remember Adam!"?

Adam waved as they set off to the palace.

********************************

"Okay, Thomas, when a maiden you think would be perfect for your bride, ask her to dance. If not, bow back and she'll go. Got it?"

Tommy rolled his eyes. "And if I see a guy I like?"

King Ratliff sighed. "You won't give it up, will you?"

Tommy shook his head. "Alright, son. Do whatever you like. When has the rules stopped you anyhow?"

Tommy felt bad. He knew his dad was under stress, but he wanted a man by his side. No one else.

The ball rolled by fairly quickly.

Tommy was positioned to stand on a step at the end of the long red carpet. The man at the door anounced the names of each person who entered. But so far, Tommy had bowed to everyone.

"Chloe Anders, daughter of Edison and Linda Anders."

Tommy bowed respectfully. Once she had passed, he yawned loudly, looking up at his father on the balcony. King Ratliff shook his head before turning to the queen.

And that's when Tommy saw him.

He was beautiful, his suit crisp and white. It sparkled as he walked down the grand staircase. Tommy hadn't even caught his name.

Adam had a hard time looking away himself.

The prince was dressed in a black suit, studs and chains hanging and adorning his jacket and boots. His blonde hair (which Adam knew was dyed by the looks of it) hung over one brown eye. He was gorgeous.

Adam walked foreward to the prince and bowed. The prince smiled. "Shall we dance?" he asked as he held his hand out. Adam smiled. "We shall."

Tommy put his right hand on Adam's hip, the other hand holding Adam's. They twirled around the ballroom, not stopping, even when the crowd of guests gasped in shock. They waltzed to the balcony of the castle, stopping at the ledge, their hands not seperating.

Adam looked into the night, the view looking more beautiful as ever. "Wow. This is amazing."

"I know," Tommy said as he wrapped his arms around Adam's waist. Adam felt a familiar feeling as the blood rushed south at the touch right above his navel.

Tommy leaned in and pressed a kiss to Adam's temple. Adam bit his lip to stop himself from moaning. He didn't usually act like this. Then again, he didn't usually get guys touching him like this either.

Tommy's index fingers slowly made their way under the waistband of Adam's jeans. Adam turned and looked into the prince's dark, outlined, brown eyes. He pressed his lips to Tommy's softly.

It was what Adam had always expected a first kiss to be.

He sat on the ledge, deepening the kiss. Tommy reached up and slid Adam's jacket off of his shoulders and onto the floor. Adam tangled his black-nailed fingers into Tommy's blonde hair.

Tommy licked Adam's bottom lip before reaching down and sliding the zipper of Adam's right boot down....

Adam paused as he heard the clock chime twelve. "Oh no."

"What?" Tommy asked.

Adam shook his head as he stepped off the ledge and shrugged into his jacket. "I have to go!"

Tommy held onto Adam's arm, "Wait! I didn't catch your name!"

Adam slid out of Tommy's grip, running towards the second biggest staircase in the castle that led to the front hall. Ge ran down the stairs in front of the castle, feeling his boot slowly sliding off.....

His right foot connected with the carpet on the next step. He looked back and saw his glittery boot standing alone. He went back to get it, but saw Tommy rushing after him. "Wait!"

Adam kept running, jumping into the carriage. He could here other carriages coming after him. At the twelfth chime, he fell and his asphalt. He herded the two mice and dog behind some bushes as the royal carriages tab over the pumpkin that was his carriage, still looking for him.

Adam finally let out a breath. He looked down to see his left shoe still on. "Thank you," he said to the sky. "For everything." He then stood in his father's tattered suit and walked home with his only friends.

********************************

"ADAM!"

Adam quickly put on his apron before leaving the attic. "Yes, ma'am?"

Camila was angry. "Where have you been?" "In my room. I was finishing up the floor, but needed my brush." Adam had the brush clutched tightly in his hand.

Camila sighed. "Fine. Get finished."

"Mom! We need a new coat hanger! This one is is made of a fish hook or something. It'll rip my coat!"

Adam pouted. "But my dad made that when my mo-"

Camila turned to Adam. "DON'T SPEAK OF HER EVER AGAIN!" Adam clutched the broom tightly in hand, holding himself from making a snarky comment. He went back into his room in silence.

The next morning, as Adam was entering his stepbrother's room, he heard Camila excited voice say, "The prince is looking for the man he danced with at the ball!"

Adam dropped the tray of tea and plates of toast. Camila jumped. "Adam! What is wrong with you?!"

Adam knelt to pick up the broken dishes. "I'm sorry. I lost my balance." Brad rolled his eyes. "Klutzo."

Adam listens intently as his stepmother continued. "The man the prince dance with left his shoe at the palace and the prince is sending his messengers to go to every house to have every man in the kingdom try on the shoe. So get up!"

Brad and Neil jumped up and grabbed any clothes they could find, throwing them at Adam. "Hey, wake up sleepy head!" Neil yelled. Adam smiled as he handed over all of the clothes into Neil's arms.

He couldn't believe it! The prince was looking for him! Him! He couldn't wait until the prince's messengers arrived and put the shoe on him. It'll be amazing!

He hummed as he went into his room in the attic.

He didn't notice Camila watching him. He didn't notice as Camila put the pie es together as Adam sung the song that the prince and the man had danced to. He didn't see as Camila followed him up the steps to his attic.

But he did see her lock his door from the outside.

*********************************

Camila stuffed the key into the pocket of get dress, ignoring Adam's protests and banging on the door.

Kris turned to Cass. "We gotta do somethin'!"

Cass nodded. "Come on. I gotta plan." He whispered into the smaller mouse's ear.

They disappeared into one of the many mouse holes that made a great shortcut in going around the house. They emerged in the living room, where the prince's messengers were there already.

"Me first!" Brad said as he plopped himself on a nearby chair. He held his foot out expectantly.

Kris held onto Cass's tail as he gently lowered Cass into Camila's pocket. Unfortunatly, that was when she decided to pat the key through her pocket, reassuring herself that Adam wouldn't leave the attic. Cass held his breath, feeling dizzy as the key hit him repeatedly.

He breathed when she stopped and struggled to pick the key up. Kris grabbed it from outside and together they carried it off the table and to the ground. They noticed Drake, the cat, watching them hungrily.

Drake pounced, making both mice run for their life's. Kris, who was ahead, threw the key through the mouse hole. But he got stuck making his way in! "Come on!" Cass grunted as he pushed Kris with all his might. Kris finally went through, followed by Cass, and the mouse hole was closed off before Drake could catch them.

********************************

Cass and Kris made it outside the attic door.

Kris whistled, calling their fellow bird friends. They could here Drake struggling up the stairs.

Meanwhile.....

"It does too fit!" Brad growled as he pushed his foot inside. But it was too small for his foot. Only his toes made it in. Neil rolled his eyes before grabbing the shoe. "My turn!"

Neil shoved his brother out of the chair. As he sat, he tried unsuccessfully to shove the shoe onto his foot. But his foot was too big as well.

"It does fit! Wait!" he exclaimed as the messenger moved foreward. But the shoe just wouldn't fit. The messenger grabbed the shoe. "Sorry, but your too...um...big."

Neil growled as he moved to get up, but stopped as Camila held her hand out. "Thank you very much for coming."

"Are you sure there are no more men in this house?" the messenger asked. Camila smiled. "Nope. None whatsoever."

"Wait! Wait!"

Adam rushed down the stairs out of breath. His hands were behind his back as he hurried before the men left. The messenger smiled as he motioned for Adam to sit. "Bring the shoe!" Another man hurriedly brought back the shoe. But Camila had other plans.

She looked from the make-shift coat hanger to the small man. She held her foot out and he fell, the shoe flying away. Everyone watched in stunned amazement as the coat hanger ripped the sparking leather. "No!"

"Um...sir-"

"No, no, it's over. All's lost!" the messenger cried. Adam tapped his shoulder. "But I have the other shoe."

Camila watched in shock as Adam pulled the left shoe from behind his back and handed it to the messenger. The other man held it carefully in his hands as he slid the shoe on Adam's left foot and slid the zipper up, a perfect fit.

Adam smiled as he stood, admiring the shoe. It wasn't long before he was wisked away to the palace.

********************************

Adam felt so nervous as he looked up at the palace's front doors.

Tommy was standing on the steps, waiting for him. He was wearing a similar outfit like at the ball, black with studs and chains, but the boots were different and his hair styled to the other side. Adam looked down at himself.

He was still wearing his rags. His brown vest was tattered. Under rather was a plain tan shirt, tattered as well. He wore tan pants and his left foot wore the glittery shoe while his right had on of his brown boots that ended at the calf, which was his only pair of shoes.

He took a deep breath and exited the carriage.

Tommy looked a bit confused. The man he danced with was dressed in glamour, but the man he saw now was dressed in rags. But Tommy knew this was him. He had the same deep blue eyes Tommy had stared into all night. He had the same full lips that Tommy had enjoyed kissing. He had the same freckles that Tommy had found incredibly cute.

Adam looked up through his eyelashes at Tommy before bowing. "Prince."

Tommy put his hand under Adam's chin and pulled him up until he was looking into his eyes. "Please. Call me, Tommy."

Adam nodded before licking his lips. "Tommy." He could feel his heart beating faster than usual and was pretty sure Tommy heard it too. He grabbed the hand Tommy held out for him and the walked hand in hand into the castle.

********************************

The wedding was what Adam had always dreamed it'd be.

There was glitter everywhere and everything was white and sparkled. Adam had gotten some people to make two pins that he could put on his jacket, one with a picture of his father and another with his mother. Tommy had agreed immediatly.

Adam had invited his stepmother and stepbrothers to come as well. Tommy couldn't understand why when, after Adam explained his life, they'd treated him like crap (his words). Adam had simply said, "My father would never hold a grudge. He always looked for the best in people even when he knew they weren't very nice people. I can't let him down."

But they hadn't showed, taking it as if Adam was showing off.

Kris and Cass had went though. They stood high up, watching in awe. Kris leaned into Cass's hug as they watched Adam getting his happily ever after.

Adam had gotten white boots just like the ones he wore to the ball. His eyes were outlined in black and his wedding ring was adorned in diamonds. After their first kiss as a couple, they exited the castle. Instead if rice, glitter was thrown, making everything sparkle in the sunlight.

They left on their honeymoon in a white carriage. Adam had leaned in and pressed his lips to Tommy's. Everything was perfect. And it was because Adam didn't stop dreaming. He didn't stop believing with all his heart.

Because a dream is really a wish your heart makes.
