"Instead of chapters, there are going to be grades. The last one was kindergarten, so it's like a prologue. Now it's first grade!"

Title: The Beginning - First Grade
Author; K-Lee
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Kurt, Puck, Blaine, Rachel, and Finn
Warnings: Not any.
Summary: The years before high school, including Pre-K to 8th grade.
Author's Notes: I'm not sure if the song came out at that time, but though it was nice enough for Puck to sing to his sister. If you want to see more Mr. Berry/Mr. Berry action then just comment and I'll put it in. XD

A/N 2: I added Blaine into it 'cuz I wanted to have him there. XD we'll say Kurt didn't recognize him in high school. I'm leaving out most characters and adding them in later, but if you want to see them, just comment and I'll add them in sooner.

~First Grade~

Six-year-old Kurt came home from another day at school. He dragged his designer bookbag on the carpet and threw it, along with his peacoat, on the couch.

"How was school, kiddo?" Burt asked his son. He was worried. Kurt always took special care with his clothes and anything else that cost more than a year's rent.

"S'fine." Kurt rested his head on his hand and traced figure eights on the counter. His legs swung around the stool he was sitting on as he sighed. "Doesn't look fine."

Kurt shrugged. "Just some boys. They aren't very nice."

Burt sat across from his son and grabbed the tiny hand tracing shapes on the counter. "You can tell me anything."

Kurt looked up at his dad from behind his bangs. "They say my voice sounds funny and that my clothes are made for girls."

Burt felt his heart break a little as he heard Kurt's tiny voice fill with sadness. "Hey, Kurt. You know that it doesn't matter what anyone says. You're great just the way you are and your mom and I love you for being you. Don't listen to them, because they don't understand how amazing you are what you mean to me."

Kurt smiled a little and jumped off of the stool, rounded the counter and giving his dad a hug. "I love you, dad."

"I love you, too."

Kurt smiled up at him. "Want to help me pick my outfit for tomorrow?" Burt laughed, but followed his son to his room.

Noah held his little sister closely as rocked the sleeping baby. Sarah had been crying from all the noise downstairs and nobody was doing anything. Noah grabbed a bottle that he had learned to make by watching his mom and fed her. He could here his mom and dad yelling in the kitchen, sometimes banging.

Noah sat at the rockingchair and rocked slowly, singing softly to calm Sarah down. He remembered hearing it on the radio.

"I'll stand by you,
I'll stand by you.
Won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you."

A crash sounded from the living room and Noah sighed as his sister woke up from her sleep.

Blaine giggled as Linda tickled him. "Stop! Stop!" he shouted as he laughed. She stopped and he paused to catch his breath, still giggling.

"So how's was school?"

Blaine shrugged. "First grade is really hard."

Linda smiled as she stood to clean the toys. "I know. But it'll only get harder."

Blaine grinned. "Are you still in school?" Linda nodded. "College. You'll get there someday." Blaine smiled. "You're young. Twenty-two is VERY young. Like a hundred years younger than mo-"

"Okay! What do you want for dinner?" Blaine put his finger on his lip, looking like he was thinking. "Hmmm....how 'bout cocoa puffs?"

Linda laughed. "How about macaroni and cheese?"

Blaine nodded and smiled. He pulled out his homework and began to work on the first problem.

"Rachel! Dinner!"

Rachel grinned and ran to the kitchen. "Where's daddy?" "He's going to be a little late, but he'll be home soon," Zack Berry said as he placed the plate of vegtables in front of Rachel.

"How was school?"

Rachel shrugged. "It was good. But what I wanted to ask you was if I could do ballet. There's this girl in my class and she showed us all of her trophies and I want to crush her."

Zack laughed. "Sure, sweetie. Anything you want."

"Well, since we're talking about what we want, I would also like to get new tights and stockings with gold stars and they HAVE to have gold stars or I'll just throw them out. Maybe even a couple dresses that have glitter to sparkle in everyone's faces and-"

"Okay, let's wait 'til daddy comes so we could discuss this."

"Finally. Peace and quiet," Louis Berry whispered as he shut his daughter's door. "Who knew she can talk so damn much."

Zack giggled as they descended to the basement. "You shouldn't complain. You chose to adopt her." Louis shrugged. "That was before I knew she was like her mother."

They switched on the lights, illuminating the bar. Zack grabbed a bottle of wine and two glasses, taking them up the stairs and to the bedroom.

"So, I'm guessing the wine is to keep us up for a looong night." Louis said as he sat on the edge of the bed. Zack emerged from the bathroom wearing a silk robe. "Of course."

He straddled his husband's lap and captured his lips with his own. "Mmmm, delicious," he whispered against Louis's mouth. The robe was soon gone and so was any other piece of clothing.....

Carole sighed as she hung up the phone. "Momma! When's dinner?" Finn asked as he rushed into the kitchen.

Carole sighed again. "I'm sorry, sweetie. I've been so busy, how about we go out to Chinese?" Finn shrugged. "I guess."

Carole brought her boyfriend along and they ate. Finn felt a pang if sadness that his dad wasn't here. Instead it was the guy that colored their lawn green so their house wouldn't look ugly.

"How's school, kid?"

Finn looked up at the Sean and shrugged. "Good, I guess." He spread the food on his plate around with his fork. Carole smiled a small smile and grabbed her son's hand. "Sweetie, are you sure?"

Finn smiled at his mom. "Yea. Except there's this boy who speaks really high. He sounds like a girl sometimes and dresses like one. Puck was being really mean to him and I felt kind of bad."

Carole squeezed his hand. "It's okay if the boy's different. That means he's special and it's good to be special. Don't follow Puck's lead. Do what you think is right."

"I don't know. Queers are pretty.....strange," Sean said as he stuffed beef in his mouth. Carole had that look that usually meant the guy wasn't lasting long. Finn sighed again as he wished for the millionth time that his dad was there....
