Adam Lambert 'Glam Nation Live’ tour DVD/CD REVIEW

Adam Lambert’s much anticipated "Glam Nation Live" tour DVD/CD definitely lives up to expectations, delivering both an audio and visual treat for his fans. But don’t expect to see the same type of performance you saw on season 8 of American Idol, because Adam pulled out all the stops on the Glam Nation tour.

The bells and whistles of the show included lasers, costumes, dancers and a background photographic slideshow. But as exciting as these extras are, Glam Nation Live is all about Adam’s tremendous vocals, which captivated American Idol viewers two years ago.

The Glam Nation Live DVD allows for those that did not have the opportunity to attend the actual concerts to experience it first hand for themselves. And fans that were at the show in person can now re-live the experience over and over on their TV. Throughout the six month tour, members of the audience recorded hundreds of videos and posted them to YouTube for those that were not able to attend. However, the DVD provides what those videos lack - camera angles from multiple perspectives all in a single video - including close-up views, views panned in from above the crowd and even shots taken from backstage. Unfortunately, the multiple camera angles are also a downside to the DVD because they switch very fast and very often, sometimes making it difficult to focus on Adam’s performance.

The track listing for the DVD includes:
  1. Voodoo
  2. Down The Rabbit Hole
  3. Ring Of Fire
  4. Fever
  5. Sleepwalker
  6. Whataya Want From Me
  7. Soaked
  8. Aftermath
  9. Sure Fire Winners
  10. Strut
  11. Music Again
  12. If I Had You
  13. 20th Century Boy

In addition to the 13 tracks on the DVD, there are interludes when Adam is doing his costume changes, including a “tribal segment” and “jamming with lasers,” as well as an introduction of his band members and dancers. Also included on the DVD is an “Until Next Time” segment, which shows behind the scenes footage taken while on tour at various public appearances.

The accompanying Glam Nation Live CD provides listeners the opportunity to hear Adam’s vocals in a more pure way than his original "For Your Entertainment" CD, which has a slightly more “produced” sound. Plus, he changed it up while performing on tour, creating riffs in new places and often using his infamous falsetto differently throughout the songs.

The CD insert describes the three acts of the show, as well as a message from Adam:

“This show was so exciting to create as it was the first time I could tell a story in my own words through my own music.”

Overall, I give the Glam Nation Live DVD/CD a very favorable review, with the small exception of the sometimes dizzying video angle switches on the DVD. Having been in attendance at many of the Glam Nation concerts, I really enjoyed reliving the experience through Glam Nation Live. It is definitely a must-have for anyone that loves Adam's music.

To pre-order the Glam Nation Live tour DVD/CD, go to Adam’s official website, or other retailers such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Although some pre-orders have already been shipped, the release date for the Glam Nation Live tour DVD/CD is March 22.
