Athens Part II

Jul 30, 2004 14:57

Well, things have calmed down slightly here since my last entry. We found a month-to-month apartment that is in a nice area and has air conditioning, is fully furnished, and has a very large balcony. Our plan is to rent that for 1-2 months while we job hunt around Athens. As I mentioned before, I have broadened my search for teaching jobs to include Prague, Spain (Barcelona and Seville), and possibly Italy. I have two interviews scheduled in Prague for next Thursday, and will be staying there from Wednesday until Saturday to get a feel for the city.

Athens is getting more and more hectic by the day as the city scrambles to get ready for the Olympics. It is almost a comical site to see the new stadium surrounded by scattered patches of freeway that will never be done in time. Hotels are rushing to update their facilities as a means of legally justifying the price hike for the Olympics. Athens will be completely insane in a few weeks, and transportation around the city will be a nightmare.

I finally had the opportunity to see Athens at night from the top of a small mountain where an old church is situated. From that viewpoint we could see the Acropolis, all of the Olympic Stadiums/Arenas, the Parliment building, etc. It was a beautiful sight.

Oh, I fixed the last entry, the man fell from the 2nd floor, not 32nd! - Thanks Kristie!

Hope all of you are well! I will be updating this frequently to keep everyone updated on the job-hunt! I am very excited to have a place to call home for the next month or two. It will make everything much less stressful.

Miss you all!
