Tony Wilson the founder of Factory Records died yesterday due to a heart attack. This is the most important British producer/promoter/music guru that they have had in the past 30 years. He signed Joy Division, The Happy Mondays, New Order, gave Paul Oakenfold his first gig, and just created to whole Madchester scene, and helped give birth to rave culture. Basically with out Tony Wilson, no Joy Division, no Happy Mondays, no New Order, no Paul Oakenfold, no Hacienda. With out those following things you have: no Stone Roses, No Oasis, No Blur, No Gorillaz, No Pulp, No Interpol, no Arctic Monkeys, No Moby, No John Aquaviva, no The Prodigy, no rave culture, no DIY indie lables, and modern dance club culture at all. This man, with out that many here in the US knowing him, started it all!
