I met Dino Rossi again today. He came to speak at the UW and I went to see him. I'm still pretty much enthralled by the guy, he's just got that spark about him that sets him above every other politician out there. For lack of a better description, he's the Republican Barrack Obama.
He spoke a lot about where he came from, lessons he's learned, how he got where he is now, and what he sees happening to our state and our nation. Typical pep-rally feel-good stuff for a non-serving politican in the minority party. And for an hour, the only thing he would say about the 2004 election was, "In the end, I lost, and I've got to accept that and move on. Whether that means raising my four children to adulthood with my wife or trying again in 2008, I'll make that decision when the time comes." And I give him a lot of credit, because he was in a room full of College Republicans; he had every opportunity to bash on 'Governor' Gregoire and whine about the election being stolen. And yes, HE called her Governor Gregoire, because you know I sure don't.
If he runs in 2008, he'll win in a landslide. He won't even need to mention Gregoire's upcoming collapse (30 BILLION dollar budget proposal). When nobody even know his name in 2003, somehow one year later he managed to convince 168,000 Democrats who voted for both John Kerry and Patty Murray to vote for him over Christine Gregoire. Now everyone knows who he is, and he has lost none of what he had going for him 3 years ago. I can't fucking wait.
