To dream a scream

The tiny click clack of a key finding its way into the hole clinked softly behind the front door of the loft. Whines and tiny whimpered at the bottom, Laramie pawing at the corner of the door. Adam let go a soft laugh, the door opening for his furry companion. Tucking the keys into his back pocket of his jeans, he continued forward into the loft, shutting the door with the heel of his new grey sneakers. The dog scrambled for the couch, suddenly giving a shrill and frightened yelp, scittering back for Adam.

His eyes bolted up, staring into the Abyss itself. Eyes darker than the night and hundreds of times as dangerous stared back, riddled with excitement and glee. Deviousness bled from lips that had haunted him. Fangs. Black mist shifted as the figure moved a few steps closer, casually poised.

“Hello, Adam. Miss me?”

The man let go a scream, his voice cracking under the pressure. Laramie let go of a sudden yelp, being tossed from the couch. Adam bolted up into a sit, his chest heaving as fear drowned him. Eyes scattered to every corner of the visible loft, finding nothing.

He had fallen asleep on the couch…

Nothing more but a bad dream…
