There's always something to be done. If it starts flaring up and bothering you, put something on it, take it easy. You're allowed to. No one's going to think less of you for it.
[She can recognize the forcefulness in her tone and dials it down a notch.]
I don't know. I'm planning on going out there regardless, not just to find him. Angela wants to help me look for him, but I'm not exactly thrilled at the idea of wandering around the beach with those birds around.
[There's an edge to her own voice, sharpened by the ever-present throb in her shoulder and the sleepless nights. But she manages to soften it as well, because she knows it's just concern.]
I mean, I'm planning on going out there too. Sitting inside when the sheep happened nearly drove me mad, there's no bloody way I'm doing the same now. I wish I could Summon him for you, but I don't think the spell works that way. I'm sure he's alright, though. He's a clever thing.

I'm not just going to leave it alone.
[Just for the record, and her tone is reflective of that. She might drop it now, but that doesn't mean she isn't going to bring it up again later.]
He's managed to live through more than most people would give him credit for, and he's a lot braver than expected, too. I don't know if that's just a case of his bark being more ferocious than his bite, but it's a comforting thought, at the very least. [Pause.] Planning on going out to look for people?
I'm planning on going out there and fighting the sodding things off. Protect the people I know, of course, but I'm just not going to sit on my arse and twirl my wand when there's something I can do to defend this place and the people in it. And, honestly? It'll be nice to fight something that'll fight back-it's been a while.

Worried.
[If she's going to expect honesty, then she's going to have to give it in some small amount.]
Restless. Wishing Peter was here. I got a gun, so I'd like to go out with you. I can't just sit on my hands, especially knowing that you're going out there.

The fact that you're phrasing it as a question concerns me.
[It's not what she's worried about anyway, but then she would actually have to talk about her feelings. She brushes off Ginny's question by trying to sound confident.]
voice | privateadamantinedMarch 31 2011, 02:44:38 UTC
I meant why would you phrase that as a question in the first place? Of course I've got your back. If you have to ask then maybe I should start looking for another teammate.
[Teasing, but gently, not enough to incite one of their typical sarcastic throwdowns, enough to switch tracks back to serious.]
I just don't like them. I've never liked them. But they do have their uses, and you can stand further away from a target than if you only had a bat. And Ginny, my whole body is my way of defending myself. It's the offensive aspect that I've got problems with.
Between you and Death, I really ought to just write out everything I say before I say it. [That muttered under her breath. And then, louder, lighter,] I'm the best bloody teammate you'll ever have, don't you dare replace me.
[Sigh.]
I know. I mean, you know what I meant. Just-I hope whatever we've got works against these things. And I hope they don't try to get into buildings.

You'd probably smother me in my sleep if I so much as thought about trying to find another ginger.
[No comment on Death. She spoke to him once. It was pretty awkward.]
Everything that everyone else has been using has seemed to do okay. I don't think the City's being picky, this time around, especially if these are things that it doesn't want to have flying around.
How're you holding up?

[She's using the audio function, so that's saying something.]
You?

[Pause.]
I'm trying to watch these things, figure out how they work. Figure out why the bloody hell the deities haven't done a damn thing.

[A sigh.]
You should put some ice on it or at least take something.
Reply
[And another sigh here.]
Are you planning on going out there? ... Maybe find Mr Muggles?

How's your aim with that thing?

Better than it should be

[Again, returning to the twins' default setting for dealing with stressful situations: humour. But then it fades in light of Claire's next words.]
Better is better than shite. I know you can't get hurt, but I'd worry all the same if you didn't have a way to defend yourself.
