Letter to the Editor.
I'm not sure if you're the one I should be writing to with this letter of concern, but I hope that it will get into the Business and Editorial Section of the newspaper this week.
I recently heard of a law that Florida passed last week stating that if a woman is giving birth and a complication arises, the baby is to be saved and the mother is to die. I'm not sure if that stings most women in this state, but it hit me to the core. Are we moving backwards? Are we so concerned with the unborn that we would let a contributing citizen to die to save it? I don't like abortion as much as the next person, but when the government starts getting involved with my means of reproduction, I feel the need to step back and look at our society.
Let's look at an example.
A woman is giving birth to her child, however, something happens to where it becomes a choice of the mother or the baby. Florida law states that you have to let the mother die. Now, that child is going to grow up motherless, the father will have to take care of it by himself, and yet another single parent "family" is born.
America is so concerned with fetuses that we don't stop and look at what these anti-abortionists and unborn child saving laws are doing to its people. We are killing working mothers and tearing apart families to save one person who will be dependent on one or more people for 16 years.
We need to stop and think about our priorities.
