Puzzlement

So, very shortly after I posted Until We Burn here on my LJ, I recieved the rejection notice from the archieve it had been submitted to. Now, I'm not terribly surprised: there's quite a list of warnings on that story, and it's not for the faint of heart. That said, the rationale for the rejection has me somewhat puzzled about our social mores.

Well ... the American Society has always been kind of "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!" when it comes to the more "taboo" aspects of sex. We're very much behind the rest of the world where that's concerned I'm afraid. For example, I would never tell my coworkers that male on male sex is totally hot to me. :O)) They would give me the hairy eyeball! I can tell my online buddies, cuz they totally get me. :O} But ... our society sucks when it comes to sex. Period.

I was somewhat amused by the big stink in the US a few years back where the two were compared. Apparently human rights activists were appalled that anyone would compare being gay with being incestuous. Yet, oddly, that was the first comparison that came to my mind too...

You're definitely right about it being taboo. Of course, you couldn't really say that other people's male/female sex (ie. het porn) is hot to you, either... we're still a very puritan society that way.
