In the twentieth century, Jack was sent to a therapist more than once. Anger management issues, trust issues, abandonment issues... it sometimes seemed like his issues had issues. Things occasionally got to the point where his Torchwood employers gave him an ultimatum: get professional help or get locked away.
So he went, though he never told them the real problem was that he’d seen the Doctor multiple times over the years, visiting Earth on and off, carefree and happy and wonderful.
And it hurt that the Time Lord he loved and the Time Lord he was furious with were inseparable.
